DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF LPG REFRIGERATOR

Introduction:

Electricity free refrigerator system throughout which we can makerefrigeration system in electricity less areas. There are so many areas in

India where electricity not available. So in that areas to preserve food,

medicine, meat the electricity refrigeration must be required. L!

"Lique#ed etroleum !as$ is the combination of propane, isobutene and

highest amount of butane with %&.'(.The use of L! for refrigeration

purpose can be environment friendly since it has no o)one depletion

potential "*+$. ccording to the Indian !overnment, the refrigerator is

the -rd heaviest consumer of power amongst household appliances. It is

one of the few appliances that is running -&% days a year, increasing the

importance, whenever possible, to have an ecofriendly refrigerator inyour household. new ecofriendly refrigerator in /00& was estimated to

consume '12 kilowatt hours per year. The energy consumption of

refrigerators has improved steadily year over year. It works on the

principle that during the conversion of L! into gaseous form the

e3pansion will be take place. +ue to this e3pansion in L! gas the

pressure will drops. nd the volume will be increase this will be result into

dropped in temperature and it acts as refrigerant. ccording to second law

of thermodynamics, this process can only be performed with the aid of

some e3ternal work. It is thus obvious, that supply of power "say electrical

motor$ is regularly required to drive a refrigerator. The substance whichworks in a heat pump to e3tract heat from a cold body and to deliver it to

a hot body is called refrigerant.

4hen we think about refrigerator we only remember refrigeration in

kitchen, but actually divided in three types in which each type having their

own type of functioning. *ne which used in Industrial purpose called as

Industrial refrigerator. 4hich used as food processing, chemical

processing 5 cold storage. Industrial refrigeration, which frequently uses

ammonia refrigeration to maintain temperature, is necessary for

computer, foodstu6s, blood, vaccines, and quite a few other goods thatmust maintain a constant and steady temperature at all times.

Temperatures matters in industrial refrigeration companies to pay

attention at all times. +omestic refrigerant consumes 27%00 metric tons

of traditional refrigerant as 898, :98 and which contribute high o)one

depletion potential "*+$ and !lobal warming potential "!4$. !ood

progress is being made with the phase out of 898 // from new equipment

manufacture by replacing L! since it possesses an environmentally

friendly nature with no *+. L! is e3pected to results in comparable

product e;ciencies based on its characteristics. Therefore, this two types

of refrigerants "L! and 898 //$ to be e3amined using a modi#eddomestic refrigerator in term of their performance characteristics

parameters such as pressure and temperature at speci#ed location at the

refrigerator and the safety requirements while conducting the e3periment.

<y performing the tests on new system, it is indicate that the successful of

using L! as an alternative refrigerant to replace 898 // in domestic

refrigerators is possible by getting L!.

Design:

The basic idea behind L! refrigeration is to use the evaporation of a L!to absorb heat. L! is stored in cylinders at pressure at about 10 psi. 4elowering this pressure to pressure of 2 psi so that the heat absorbedadiabatically and cooling is obtained on surrounding. The simple mechanism of the L! refrigeration working is shown in #gure.

Constructional features and arts:!

"# LPG Gas C$linder:

L! is Lique#ed etroleum !as. This is general description of ropane"8-:1$ and <utane "8':20$, either stored separately or together as a mi3.

This is because these gases can be lique#ed at a normal temperature by

application of a moderate pressure increases, or at normal pressure by

application of L! using refrigeration

9rom the L! gas cylinder, L! =ows through the pipe and reaches to

the capillary tube. L! gas pressure is appro3imate 2/21 bar.

%# Caillar$ Tu&e:

9rom the L! gas cylinder, L! =ow through the pipe and reaches to the

8apillary tube. L! gas pressure is appro3imate 2/21 bar.

'# E(aorator:

The evaporator is a important part of the refrigeration system which

produces the cooling e6ect in the vapour form at low pressure and

temperature.

)# Pressure gauges:>any techniques have been developed for the measurement

of pressure and vacuums. Instruments used to measure pressure are

called pressure gauges or vacuum gauges. These gauges are available in

&-mm, 200mm, and 2%0mm si)es.

*# +ig, Pressure ies:

The range of high pressure pipes covers most application where

there is a

requirement to transfer gas at high pressure. They consist of a steel

pipe with a steel ball #tted to both ends.

ll pipes are pressure tested to 200 >a "/00 psi$ over recommende

d working pressure.

Conclusion:

?nalysis and performance of domestic refrigerator using L! as

refrigerant@ is based on the principle of adiabatic e3pansion of arefrigerant "In this case L!$ from 10 psi to 20 psi so that

thermodynamically it absorbs heat from surrounding and cooling may

done. E3pected cooling is predicted up to range of 20 to %0 degrees.

Asing the sophisticated data and instruments the relevant refrigeration

system will be develop practically. In this proBect the capillary tube is more

suitable throttling device in L! refrigeration system. This system is

cheaper in initial as well as running cost.

It does not require an e3ternal energy sources to run the system and no

moving part in the system so maintenance is also very low. 4e also

conclude that, we try the burnt to the e3haust L!, as we daily do but also

the refrigeration is obtained which is inherent process takes place daily. In

this system this refrigeration is ampli#ed remarkably and a cheaper and

ecofriendly method is developed. This system most suitable for hotel,

industries, re#nery, chemical industries where consumption of L! is very

high. 8* of L! refrigerator was higher than that of C2-'a by about 7.&
