In a step down transformer the number of turns is greater on the primary coil than the number of turns on the secondary coil. Also the primary input voltage is greater than the secondary output voltage.

STEP UP TRANSFORMER

In a step up transformer the number of turns on the secondary coil is greater than the number of turns on the primary coil. Also the secondary output voltage is greater than the primary input voltage.
