REASONS WHY ELECTRICAL WHOLESALERS TRAIN

THEIR STAFF

Complexity of product offering

• Number of products from a variety of suppliers

• Speed of new product introductions

• Frequent regulation, legislation and standard changes

• Products require high levels of technical support for customers

• New technologies will require move from product to system sales

• Need to offer exceptional technical support to fight online

competition

Page 6: ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTORS’ ASSOCIATION …eda.org.uk/clientUpload/downloadDocument/document/EDA...2010/09/14  · Often higher level qualifications - NVQ level 3 and above. - Normally

MORE REASONS WHY ELECTRICAL WHOLESALERS

TRAIN THEIR STAFF

Need to upskill to attract and retain talent

• A relatively unknown industry sector

• Need to offer a development plan to attract good people and retain

and motivate existing staff

• Many young new entrants have no relevant skills when they start

Page 7: ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTORS’ ASSOCIATION …eda.org.uk/clientUpload/downloadDocument/document/EDA...2010/09/14  · Often higher level qualifications - NVQ level 3 and above. - Normally

REALLY GOOD REASONS FOR ELECTRICAL

WHOLESALERS TO TRAIN THEIR STAFF

Availability of Government Funding

• Currently, employers can take advantage of tuition fees of up to

£4000 through Government funding of placed apprentices and

vocational training for existing staff

Access to EDA’s Education and Training Portfolio

• Takes away all the hassle for the employer and is extremely good

value for money.

QUOTES FROM APPRENTICES IN 1965

• “….. we are of course motivated by self interest but that self interest is tied up more with a company who is prepared to invest in our future than one that is not”

• “Anyway, the wholesale industry needs properly trained recruits. Even if we move from one company to another, we’re still in wholesaling, which is what everybody wants, …”
