CHILTON SCOUTS LATEST TO RECEIVE COMMUNITY GRANT FUNDS
CONTINUED ON PAGE 3
Chilton Mayor, Cllr Tonya Duprey presents 1st Chilton Scouts with a Community Grant Fund cheque for £500.
THE 1ST Chilton Scouts are the third local group to benefit from Chilton Town Council Community Grant Fund which was initiated earlier this year.
Following a successful funding bid the Mayor, Councillor Tonya Duprey visited the scouts on
Wednesday 5th Septem-ber to present them with a cheque for £500 on behalf of the Town Council.
The grant will be used towards a trip the Scouts have planned.
Local groups, clubs and societies can apply for a grant to support activities
that directly benefit the community (conditions apply).
Mayor of Chilton, Coun-cillor Tonya Duprey said: “The Town Council wel-comes and appreciates the support local groups offer to residents of our community.
“The 1st Chilton Scouts is a well-established group and it is obvious our local youngsters enjoy attending.
“Well done to the lead-ers, volunteers, parents and young people who support the Scouts,” she added.
HAVE YOUR SAY ON ADULT SOCIAL CARE SERVICESRESIDENTS AND commu-nity groups are invited to share their views about adult social care as part of a major national consultation.
The Local Government Association (LGA) consul-tation, titled ‘The lives we want to lead’, asks how best to pay for social care and support for older peo-ple, adults with mental or physical disabilities and unpaid carers.
The LGA hopes that the responses will start a debate about changing the emphasis of the care and health system to focus more on preventative, community-based per-sonalised care, changes which would help to max-imise people’s health, well-being and independence and alleviate pressure on the NHS.
The LGA estimates that nationally, adult social care services face an annual funding gap of £3.5 billion by 2025.
Cllr Lucy Hovvels, Cabi-net member for adult and health services and chair of the health and wellbe-ing board, said: “County Durham’s population is changing significantly and the number of people aged over 65 will increase

A spokesperson for the organisers said: “It was a great day with over 35 cyclists taking part on the
day. Some were experi-enced cyclists who do tri-athlons and some haven’t been on a bike for twenty years or more, but they all came together to honour a lovely lady.
“Hopefully, considering its success, it will become an annual event in the Chi Taekwondo calendar.”
FORMER PUPILS and the widower of recently deceased Chilton Taek-wondo instructor, Mas-ter Joan Britton, came together to stage a Sum-mer Bike Ride in aid of Macmillan Cancer Sup-port.

from almost one in five people to over one in four by 2030. The question of how we pay for adult social care in the long-term is therefore getting even more urgent.
“The consultation is open to all members of
the public, regardless of whether they receive adult social care and support, and I would like to stress what an important oppor-tunity this consultation is for people in County Dur-ham to have their say.”
Findings from the con-sultation will be used to help influence the
Government’s spending plans and its own green paper, due for release this autumn.
Residents and com-munity groups have until Wednesday, 26th Septem-ber to comment on the consultation, which can be found at www.future ofadultsocialcare.co.uk.

EXCEPTIONAL RESULTS
Whitworth Park students have once again proved themselves able to compete with the best, with many exceptional performances. The school are proud of the increase in attainment measures for English and Maths which are significantly higher this year. The majority of subjects have improved attainment in comparison to their targets.
Visible improvements are occurring across the board, and a recent HMI visit has acknowledged the significant changes already made and recognised the impact of these decisions on the students and the school. Ultimately, leaders within the school are taking decisive and effective actions in order to rapidly improve the education of all children in Spennymoor.
Whitworth Park has celebrated some outstanding successes and a much improved overall set of exam results in August 2018.

FERRYHILL SPORT & Education Centre will be the venue for 16 bouts of Olympic-style amateur boxing on Saturday 3rd November.
The event is being organised by Seconds Out Boxing Academy, which is based in the centre, and will feature boxers from across the North East and as far afield as Scotland competing against local boxers from the Acad-emy.
Two-time Olympic boxer, Savannah Marshall from Hartlepool will present the prizes.
Savannah, who was signed to a professional promotional contract by Floyd Mayweather Jnr has since split amicably from the Mayweather
camp and is now back with former trainer, Peter Fury, uncle of Tyson Fury.
Nicknamed the ‘Silent Assassin’, she made her professional boxing debut at super middleweight on the undercard of The Money Fight, the box-ing super-fight between undefeated five-division
champion, Mayweather Jnr and the former UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor.
She also won Britain’s first ever women’s box-ing world title when she edged out Elena Vystrop-ova of Azerbaijan in a world middleweight title fight on her 21st birthday.
Tickets for the event are available now from the Centre, from Seconds Out gym, or by calling Acad-emy founder, Paul Eddy on 07767 872210.
Ringside seats cost £15 and outer seating tickets are £10. The doors will open at 12 noon with the boxing starting at 1pm.
