WHAT IS ELECTRICITY?
Matter is made of very small particles called atoms. An atom has a balance (equal charge) of protons and electrons (positive and negative charge)
Because of a source of energy on the atom the electrons move from one atom to another and that produces
ELECTRICITY.
Thales was the first to notice static electricity around 600 BC. In 600
B.C.
Thales of Miletus writes about amber becoming charged by rubbing – he was describing what we now call static electricity.
STATIC ELECTRICITY: somematerials like plastic loose electrons
easily
Rub an inflated balloon or a comb on your head or a wool sweater
and..
Stick the balloon to a wall...
Bring the balloon close to one end of the popsicle stick, and watch it rotate on the spoon!
-Unlike charges attract each other.-Like charges repel each other.
ENERGY SOURCES: we need energy to generate electricity
1- Renewable means that never run-out: sun, wind, water, ..
2-Non renewable sources are more contaminating: oil, gas, batteries.. and will run out in the future.
SAFETY ADVICE
.
-Never put your fingers or any other objects in electrical sockets
-Never use electrical devices near water or touch switches with wet hands.
-Always hold the plug by the plastic part.
-Don't use a device with damaged wires.
