Calimanesti
There has been a church in the village of Calimanesti for
one year. A big part of our mission here is visiting people
in need; not only in this village but in neighbouring
villages as well. Every time we visit the elderly they are
surprised and grateful that we have come. We are not
related to them, but we visit. Many elderly have felt
forgotten by their relatives, and need help to do even
simple things. Our visits to the elderly prepared the road
for us to begin an elderly care programme with OM. We
started in March and now help 10-12 elderly.
Costea is 62 years old. She lives alone in a house that is only partially constructed. These days
she doesn’t have the strength to finish the building work. When I visited her I was shocked by the
conditions she is living in. She doesn’t even have a proper floor. She receives only 360 lei a
month for her pension (less than $30). She is trying to save some of this for firewood in the
winter. I have to wonder how she can possibly be saving from this small amount. She is so
grateful for the meal we are able to bring her.
Elizaveta is 80 years old and receives a pension
of 90 lei ($7.50). She is living in a small room, in
very bad conditions. Even though she shares this
small room with her sister, they have a bad
relationship and they don’t speak to one another.
We pray and work to help these sisters live in
peace.
Dear Friends, we are so grateful that our elderly care projects can continue even
through the summer months. We are working with some of the most vulnerable
people in Moldova and are pleased to have opened four new projects over the
past few months. Now even more elderly are receiving the love and care they so
desperately need!

Moscovei
This May OM Moldova partnered with the church in our
village to start an elderly care project.
Vasile, the leader of the church, calls the project “Your
Involvement”. His desire is to see the church involved in
the work as much as possible.
A visit in this village makes you realise how desperately
this project is needed.
There is an old Ukrainian man who lives even without a
pension, because he does not have the correct
documents. There is an elderly lady who, with tears in her eyes, says that for two years she has
not had a proper bath. And the list continues...
We are so grateful that we can bless and care for these elderly in Jesus’ name.
Thank You!!
My name is Ion and I am a pensioner living alone. I have a problem with one leg which is shorter
than the other. I have been in the project for two months. I thank you from my soul for the food
which I receive from the centre. It is tasty, healthy food which is delivered regularly. In winter I
receive fruit and vegetables. I don’t have a wife and don’t have anyone to make food for me. I
thank those who give the food (by providing the finances) and I am glad that somebody cares for
me. Thank you!

Mihai
Mihai has some mental problems but for a long time he managed to live
on his own; unfortunately, a few months ago there was a fire in his
house and now it is completely destroyed. He has moved into another
house nearby and his sister comes to take care of him sometimes.
In the winter, Mihai decided to go for a walk but wasn’t dressed
properly. He froze his feet and one had to be amputated.
Mihai’s mental illness has been getting worse since then. Sometimes
he screams and scratches himself. It upsets his sister.
She is very grateful that she is not alone in caring for her brother. They
are very thankful that someone comes from the church to visit and to
bring a nutritious meal.
