Elbert Bryan

BryanE. Harvey Bryan Jr. was called to Heaven by God and his beloved wife during the morning of July 7th. Harvey was a faithful member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church where he went to daily mass and kept a perennial candle burning for his Barbara.Soon after graduating from Murphy High School, Harvey enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he went on to become a hero in the Korean war. Just days after landing at Inchon Korea in September of 1950, he was unexpectedly thrust into the position of 1st Squad Leader attached to the Charlie Company. With socks and boots frozen to his feet, completely surrounded by the enemy, 1st Sergeant Bryan valiantly led his squad through what is now known as the Chosin Reservoir Campaign. In December of 1950 he was air evacuated to a hospital in Japan due to frostbite of both the hands and feet; and was honorably discharged in 1952. 1st Sergeant Bryan then joined the USMC Reserve and returned to Mobile where he became yet another hero; this time to his family. He officially retired from services on May 17, 1990.Harvey married Barbara Pavlic in August of 1951 and they went on to have 5 children, Tony (Kathleen) Bryan, Tim (Jan) Bryan, Sharon (Neal) Tourne', Tina Bryan and David (Debbie) Bryan. He adopted the

adorable canine Rosie in December of last year. Rosie is adored by all (well mostly all) and will be well loved and raised by the family of Rick and Lori Tourne. Harvey also leaves behind one sister, Jesselyn and one brother, Billy; 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and other relatives. While working at an engineering firm and raising his family, Harvey studied engineering at the University of Alabama in Mobile where he served as student government president for a year. He went on to work at Cooper Van Antwerp's architect firm for 20 years where he served as Clerk of the Works for the construction of the Mobile General Hospital. He spent the last 19 years of his career as an Architectural Engineer for the Building & Grounds Department of Mobile. We will miss our generous, strong and dashing Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and friend. But we will cherish his legacy and we smile to know that our parents are together again for all time. A mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 10th at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Visitaton will start at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. 1st Sergeant Bryan's heroism will be recognized and we are so proud that he will be laid to rest with full military honors. Condolences may be offered at www.mmgfuneralhome.com.
