Bookmarks!

Have you seen these new

bookmarks? Grace

Episcopal Church will be

featuring the stained glass

windows on bookmarks each

year. This year’s bookmark

shows the window depicting

the Ascension of Jesus,

hands raised in blessing and

clothed in red indicating

royalty. The reverse side of

the bookmark gives service

times, address and telephone

number and a description of

the window.

You will find these

bookmarks in baskets near

the doorways as you enter

the church. Take one to use

in your Bible, library book,

or other favorite reading

material. Hand one to a

newcomer or take one to a

friend or family member.

On Mother’s Day, this photo was taken of a

large group of young mothers. They hold

the future of Grace in their arms.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Welcoming Ryan Ashley Into the Ministry of Acolytes

On July 5th, our newest member of the acolytes joined his sister and father, Alexis

and Michael Ashley. Ryan Ashley shadowed and learned some of the acolyte

duties. He has also been learning about the rites and rituals of the Episcopal Church

in Children’s Church. One of the focuses during Children’s Church is the

introduction into the ministry of acolytes for those children who wish to take that

step. Acolytes must be at least eight years of age or in the third grade. Serving at

the Lord’s altar is an honor and acolytes must be ready to take direction from the

Acolyte Director, the Verger and the Rector of the church, as well as be responsible

for the careful handling of sacred vessels, torches, the sanctus bell and the

processional cross.

There will be more information coming in October regarding children’s ministries,

including acolytes. Meanwhile, if any child or adult feels called to become an

acolyte, they may contact the Acolyte Director, Deb Bockhold.

We congratulate Ryan Ashley as he takes this step into an important ministry of the

church.

Grace VPK Begins It’s Sixth Year in August!

Grace Episcopal Church VPK starts back August 17th with thirty-two new little lambs. We are so excited to begin our sixth year in the

Lively House! Our staff for the 2015-2016 school year consists of: two teachers, Barbara Moore and Lise Kent; three assistants, Anissa

Cunjie, Caroline Pearson, and Kanta Allen; and one director/substitute teacher, Shirley Webb. You may have noticed a new name among our

teacher assistants. Kanta, a CCF student majoring in early childhood education, brings to our school her love of God and children. She was

an assistant at the College of Central Florida Learning Lab School working with two-year-olds and is delighted to now work with our VPK

and Aftercare programs. We have a wonderful team eager to educate these little ones and share Jesus’ love for them.

Help Wanted! ~ by Janie Rubin, Newsletter Editor

Wanted: Photographers & Reporters

Hey Grace Family! Ever wonder who takes all the pictures and writes the news stories for the newsletter? Many of the stories carry bylines,

so the question of who writes the news is usually easy to figure out. And when there is no byline, well, myself or Eleanor Simons likely wrote

it. But the newsletter needs many more people willing to write items, particularly stories about activities and events that may not be attended

by everyone. We’ve had good articles in the past about various Bible Study groups, organizations, parties, trips, etc. so that the rest of us

might enjoy knowing what wonderful things are happening involving Grace Family members. No experience is needed to write a brief

paragraph on an event you might attend whether or not the whole church is there or if only two or three are gathered together. Typed or hand

written, uncertain spelling, grammar or sentence structure are not a problem. That’s what the editor is for, so send in your first hand accounts

of the events you attend.

Of an even greater need is more photographers. Most everyone has a camera or a cell phone that takes pictures. While

expensive, high powered cameras do a terrific job, the smaller ones that easily fit into a pocket or purse do great as well.

Cell phones - may depend on the model of course, but many of the newer phones do a really good job. Most of the time,

the photos you see here are taken by Eleanor or myself, and others such as Heather Hetzel, Barbara Trow, James Rubin,

Jackie Blasucci, Karen Kudia and Mary Delancey have often contributed. Most of the Mission Trip to Cuba photos were

taken by Summer Gill. So if you find yourself attending an event, or you are in church on a holiday, or going on a

church related trip, or attending a concert or recital we need your photographs. Eleanor and I can not attend everything,

every time, so sometimes something special is happening and no one has captured it for the rest of us.

Did you know that the newsletters are being saved by the church to become our pictorial archive of our history for future

generations? So you can see how important it is to have photos. Digital photos may be sent to me by E mail to

[email protected] or given to me on a CD or thumb drive. They need to be as big as possible and not cropped or edited (I’ll do that for

you). Oh, and if you still use a film camera, hard copies are also always welcome. Here are some samples of the types of photos we need for

your perusal as well as some of Grace’s “Kodak Moments” we would not want to have missed .

So if it is two people working together, or the whole congregation marching down the street…..

Or a special visitor….. Or a child learning to serve in a ministry…..

A concert or recital ….. A special or unusual church service…..

A holiday….. Like Easter….. And the work to make it

happen…..

A family group….. Or a study group….. Or one person boiling corn…..

You Get the Picture!

Take a few notes, get a few photos along with names, and send them to the newsletter. If you don’t believe a picture says a thousand words,

look at these samples again. Look what we would have missed!

three children who received boxes that we packed!

Let’s make an effort this year to pack up even more

boxes. We know they are appreciated by the children

Our New Presiding Bishop Has Been Elected at the General Convention

The 78th General Convention of the Episcopal Church was held

June 25th - July 3rd in Salt Lake City, Utah. General Conventions are held

every three years. The convention consists of two houses, the House of

Bishops, made up of all bishops, and the House of Deputies, made up of other

clergy and lay people. One of the items on a convention agenda is the election

of a Presiding Bishop. Our next Presiding Bishop is The Right Reverend

Michael Curry. Bishop Curry’s ministry includes parishes in Ohio, Maryland

and North Carolina where he was consecrated as bishop of that diocese.

More may be read about Bishop Curry at:

http://www.episcopalchurch.org/bishop/rt-rev-michael-b-curry.

Bishop Gregory Brewer attended the convention along with the deputation

from the Diocese of Central Florida. You may read Bishop Greg’s reports on
