The Flowers in the Sanctuary on
Sunday, June 17 are given to the
glory of God and in loving memory
of E.L. Smith and Mary Warthen
Smith, parents of Ernest Lee Smith.
Special Offering, This Sunday, June 10
This Sunday, a special offering will be received for the
Wesley Glen Ministries. For the parents of a child
who is developmentally disabled, the most profound
question facing them is who will take care of their child
when the parents are no longer able to do so. Wesley
Glen’s promise to those parents and to our community
is that we will provide this care. We invite you to
support this ministry and help keep the promises made
to our residents and their families. Pastor Jimmy was chair of the
Wesley Glen Board for several years and believes strongly in this
ministry. Why not make a gift either in honor or in memory of your
father and designate it for Wesley Glen?
Baking/Visitation Ministry
Would you like to serve the Lord in a very special ministry?
Would you like to serve on a committee which has only ONE
meeting a year? Do you like to bake? Do you like to meet new
people? Well, the Baking/Visitation Ministry could be the
ministry for YOU! We are looking for volunteers to bake a few
“goodies” OR to deliver these “goodies” to people who visit our
church. Serving on this committee requires approximately four
hours a year (you read that right . . . A YEAR!) AND a willing
servant’s spirit! If you are interested or need more information
please contact Fay Foy Franklin at 682-4082 or by email
Christian sympathy is extended to Becky Holmes in the death of her
mother, June Hutchins, on June 12, 2012
Remember in prayer our
president, our nation,
and our military and
their families.
OUR CHURCH IN MISSION
This Sunday in all three morning worship services, we will be honored to have
Steve and Hope Shearouse present a brief mission report. Steve is the director of
Mission on the Move headquartered in Springfield, Georgia. Steve and Hope
spend a lot of their time in Honduras, Guatemala, and Mexico, and our mission
team to Mexico later this summer will be under the overall director of Mission on
the Move.
As I reflected on Sunday’s visit by Steve and Hope, I began to thank God for the
many different people who will participate in mission teams throughout this
summer. Becky Holmes has already been to Brazil where she went with a United
Methodist Church in Athens to do medical boat ministry along the Amazon. This
mission in Brazil is supervised by Gordon and Tecca Greathouse who receive
missionary salary support from our church.
On Sunday, July 1 at the 11AM worship service, we will commission the Mission
team who will travel to Macedonia from July 2 to July 13 to lead Vacation Bible
School in Strumica, Macedonia. Carol Partridge, another missionary supported
by our church, leads this United Methodist-sponsored work in Macedonia. Hilda
Dutrow is leading this group also consisting of Jim Dutrow, Laura Beasley,
Martha Ray, Debbie Walker, Justin Peay, Mary Ann Lisenbee, and Sydna
Williams.
On Sunday, July 8 around 8AM, our youth will leave for a Mission trip to Boone,
NC. They will partner with Kingdom Builders and will participate in small
construction and painting projects and help with the local Vacation Bible School.
There is room for two more adult chaperones and three more students. If you are
interested in going on this trip, please contact Becca Brown. Those participating
are: Emily Morgan, Laura Campbell, Maddie Manack, Jessica Vickers,
Taylor Henderson, Tres Henderson, Ashley Walker, Matthew Walker, Zach
Anderson, Sterling Burke, Christopher Haynes, Sam Stone, Donmanique
Crawford, Earl Dabbs, Jr., and Becca Brown. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if
several of us gathered in the parking lot that morning to pray this group on
their way? (You might be interested in knowing that 35 of our youth have helped with our
Vacation Bible School this week.)
On Sunday, July 29 at the 11AM worship service, we will commission the Mexico
Mission Team. John Ray, Martha Ray, Charlie Cox, Susan Cox, Elisabeth
Cox, and Stephanie Sipe will travel to Tapachula, Mexico from July 31 to August
8. While in Tapachula, the team will provide respite care for the houseparents of a
boy’s home.
Did you count the number of our church members involved this summer in
national and international mission trips?

Vacation Bible School - A Great Week!
We will share a more in-depth
report next week when we have
the final count and wind down
from a busy week. As this
information is being submitted,
we are on day 2 of learning
everything is possible with
God, trust Him! I cannot thank
parents, adult & youth
volunteers, and our church staff enough for all they have done
to help make this successful. We have had such a wonderful
team and look forward to sharing some special music during
the 11:00am service this Sunday.
