El Camino College JAZZ BAND AUDITIONS Spring 2018 Monday, February 12 @ 7:00–10:00 p.m. ECC Band Room (AUD 130) Auditions for both Studio Jazz Band / MUS 266 & 567 and Concert Jazz Band / MUS 267 & 567 will BOTH take place at the time/location listed above. Attendance of the entire audition time is mandatory in order to be considered joining the band program. Arrive ready to play promptly at 7:00pm. The Audition Process: No preparation is required. Students will sight-read standard jazz big band music (one person to a part) in a full ensemble setting. Placements are determined by skill level as opposed to individual student schedules. This practice is being initiated in order to group student performers according to similar levels. Acceptance and chair placement will be determined according to the following criteria — Horns: Sight-reading ability, tone, stylistic approach & jazz improvisation Rhythm Section: Sight-reading ability, feel, groove, comping & jazz improvisation * Audition results will be posted both via email and on the door of the band room the next day. Add Code will be given by the instructor for those who are assigned to either or both bands during the first rehearsal.
