student journalists an opportunity to use their voices to educate and informabout important issues taking place around us every day.  

Current and former members of the Eastern Progress are pictured above at multipleevents and conferences from previous semesters. 

The students below represent just a few of the staff members that help TheEastern Progress operate and build experiences to aid in their futures. Thesestudent editors and contributors work extremely hard. In addition to their regularcoursework, extracurricular activities, and second jobs, they spend hours eachweek writing, editing, and publishing the Progress. In return, we are only able toprovide a small hourly wage for their work. In the fall semester, the Eastern Progress is excited to bring back theprint edition of the newspaper. A gift to the Eastern Progress will help allow usto produce the newspaper which includes the cost to print the Progress, thewages for each student editor, hosting our website, podcasting softwaresubscription cost, and other necessary technology and equipment. "I joined The Eastern Progress because I wanted to continue my passion forjournalism while also pursuing my degree in criminal justice. My goal after Igraduate in Spring 2022 is to become a public affairs police officer. I believe theskills that I have learned working for the student newspaper will help metremendously in the future. I have made many lifelong friendships andconnections throughout my three years at the Progress. Joining the Progresswas the best decision I made!"

"I joined the Progress originally as a sports photographer, because I havealways been interested in photography and loved watching sports. By workingfor the Progress, I have had the chance to improve my writing andcommunication skills through writing articles as well as interviewing andspeaking to people for stories. As a forensic chemistry major, these skills willhelp me throughout my future academic endeavors into grad school and intowhatever career path I go."

"I joined The Eastern Progress because I was going into the field of broadcastmedia, with the goal of creating content as a game journalist in the future. Atfirst I wrote a gaming column for a year or so, but at my editor's suggestion Iapplied for her position when she graduated. I'm looking forward to using theexperience from the Progress in the future for both freelance writing andpotentially getting a position on a writing staff for gaming publications."

"I joined The Eastern Progress to get as much hands-on experience as possible in a realnews publication. I am a Multimedia Journalism major and the experience I have gainedhas taught me by doing, not just reading about it in a textbook. I have gained confidence inmy journalism skills that I will carry with me beyond graduation. I fell in love withJournalism at a student publication just like The Eastern Progress. The Eastern Progressand student-led publications are a vital part of the college experience.You might just findyour passion for journalism here. There are so many ways to get involved. In one semesterI was the Social Media Editor, hosted my own podcast, wrote an article, and even took afew photos. The Eastern Progress is a great opportunity for me. I know I am exactly whereI need to be to help guide me to my dream job one day."

"The reason I joined the Progress was to get my feet wet and to build relationships withthose who loved journalism just like myself. I have been able to learn how to become abetter writer and journalist. Becoming the sports editor for the Progress has been ablessing and allowed me to understand the importance of telling stories and journalism asa whole. The Progress has been a big resume builder for me and will allow networkingafter college and help me find a career in sports journalism."
