Mrs G’s Challenge

Can you make paper hold up books? You certainly can! With just 4 pieces of paper and a little bit of tape.

Try different shapes and heights – which is the strongest design?

If you can, we would love to see a picture of your strongest tower!

How many books/ objects can your tower hold?

Cloud and Sky Art IdeasLook Up and Use Your

Imagination!

Find a comfy spot and relax. Look up atthe sky and observe the clouds. Taketime to really look at them. What shapesare they? Are they round, flat, long, thin, fat? Are any clouds close together or arethey far apart? Do the shapes of theclouds resemble anything, anyone oranywhere? A person, a country, amonster, an animal, a car? Have a go atdrawing the cloud shapes on a piece ofpaper and then turn them intosomething!

All kinds of Blue!

Pack up your painting gear and take itoutside! You will need paint (watercolours orready mixed), something to mix in, a pot withsome water, a paintbrush and some paper.Use the lovely blue sky as inspiration and seeif you can mix up your own collection of bluehues! This is your chance to experiment andexplore the way that colours mix. Try addingdifferent amounts of black and white to yourblue paint. What happens? You can presentyour blues anyway you fancy! You maywant to create a circle of blues or maybeblue stripes? You may want to organise themfrom lightest to darkest? Or maybe darkestto lightest? You could even make a rainbowof blues!

A Watercolour Sky

Watercolour moves and spreads across the page. Don’t panic, let it goand guide it in the direction you want it to travel in, it can make abeautiful cloudy sky! Adding more or less water creates different effectsso you may want some paper to experiment on at the same time.Watercolours create beautiful, atmospheric sky images. Observe andpaint!Top tip: When reflecting on and evaluation your image hold it at arm’s length to see how it looks from a

distance.

Georgia O’Keeffe

Children love Georgia O’Keeffe’s Sky Above Cloud series of paintings.O’Keeffe responded to views of clouds out of aeroplane windows. Ourview is a little different – we are looking up at the clouds but can stilltake inspiration from her work. Take a piece of paper and explorepainting clouds, interpret them in your own way. You may want to tryand make them look realistic or you may want to take a more abstractapproach. You could paint your paper blue before you begin. O’Keeffeworked on different sized canvases – you choose the size of your picture. One of her cloud paintings is as 8ft x 24ft!
