The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro Reviewed by MelissaAs a fan of Kazuo Ishiguro (The Remains of the Day, Never Let Me Go, When We Were Orphans) I was excited to read his new novel. This post-Arthurian story follows Axl and Beatrice as they set off

on a journey to find their son. Knights and ogres and a mean-spirited dragon make me want to declare this a fantasy, but the author has balked at that characteri-zation. I’d tell you more but there’s a fog clouding my thinking.

Uprooted by Naomi NovikReviewed by VictoriaAgnieszka lives in the valley outside the Blighted Woods. The evil of the Woods is held at bay by the wizard known as Dragon. Every ten years, Dragon se-lects a young woman to serve him. Ag-nieszka has always expected Kasia, her dearest friend, to be chosen, since she

is the bravest and most beautiful. But when Agnieszka is chosen instead, she must learn a strange, earthy magic, fight conniving politicians and horrific monsters, and forge an alliance with the prickly Dragon to save everyone she loves from the insidious, rampant menace pushing out from the Woods.

Dorothea Lange: Grab a Hunk of Lightning Reviewed by EliasRecording the life and career of perhaps our finest documentary photographer, the latest entry in PBS’ American Mas-ters series is a fascinating documentary.

In it, we see Lange develop from a portrait artist to someone on the road, photographing the bread lines during the Great Depression, laborers during the Dust Bowl, sharecroppers in the South East, and interned Japanese citizens after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The film also discusses her personal life and marriage to Paul Taylor, who hired her for the Farm Security Administration, where she took arguably the most fa-mous photograph in American History, Migrant Mother. Interspersed with interviews with Lange, Grab a Hunk of Lightning is a must-see for anyone interested in pho-tography and American history.

Teen Titans Go! BlackFire’s Back!Reviewed by NaomiIt’s round two for the Teen Titans when Starfire’s sister returns to Titan Tower. Blackfire is known for being bad and having a reputation to match. However, this time she’s turned over a new leaf

and simply wants a friendly race between sisters. Is it time for some family fun, or is Blackfire up to something else?

Enjoy reading with your favorite Teen Titans characters in this colorful graphic novel. This book is a great balance of action and storytelling for any fan of superheroes in gen-eral, especially for grades two and up. Parents will love the visual questions and prompts at the end of the story to help children develop their critical thinking abilities.

The Prom Goer’s Interstellar Excursionby Chris McCoy Reviewed by PennySenior year isn’t going the way Bennett had hoped. He didn’t get into Princeton, his only college choice, and now he’s dateless for prom. All he can do is stay in his room and write songs about his life-long crush, Sophie. A miracle happens when Sophie agrees to be his prom date. But then she gets abducted by aliens. What’s a guy going to do? Bennett teams up with an intergalactic rock band on its let’s-play-anywhere-to-get-back-on-the-charts tour to save his prom.
