TRANSCRIPT
Around the World in Two HoursThe United States thinks of itself as a “melting pot” of cultures, races, and religions. Perhaps more than any other profession, Realtors see that reality as they field housing-related questions from owners and prospective buyers around the planet. That’s why the Southland Regional Association of Realtors recently organized a two-hour multicultural mixer—to remind professionals that mulligatawny has curry flavors, “feng shui” is a serious tool in some Asian homes, and dance and music, friends and neighbors are more important for Latin and many other cultures than just the quality of a house.
Understanding and being tolerant of other cultures often leads to a rewarding career and a happy life.
Special thanks go out to a fantastic lineup of performers and entertainers, including: the North Valley Military Institute, All in One Band, Spanish dancers Jerek Hernandez and Juliana De La Roca, the new Filipino American Com-munity of L.A. Cultural Group, and the Goldie Constantian Group.
Finally, we thank all the volunteers and spon-sors, listed below, who made this year’s mixer a global suc-cess!
Owners Need to Support Vital Issues
By Roger Hance, President, and David WalkerSouthland Regional Association of Realtors®
Anyone who owns or hopes to buy a home needs to get political. Stop grumbling. Get active.
Negative news reports make it easy for an individual to be a cynic, to blame power interests and lobbyists and the uber-wealthy for the woes of the nation and the current dys-functional state of American politics.
Yet the prob-lem resides with each of us—you, me, your neighbors, friends and relatives; anyone

who grumbles yet misses a chance to make a change.
Here’s an opportunity to do some personal, one-on-one lobbying about vital topics to all Americans: housing afford-ability, saving neighborhoods, preserving the mortgage interest tax deduction, reforming home loan standards, avoiding foreclosure, federal tax relief, fair housing, veterans af-fairs, FHA loan standards, estate tax reform, eminent domain and private property rights.
These are just a few of the dozens of issues important to Realtors and home owners, buyers and sellers. Realtors do plenty of lobbying, but nothing turns a lawmaker’s head more than a home owner,
a constituent, eager to advocate for issues of importance to friends and neighbors.
Bring your concerns to the Legislative & Community Reception set for this Thursday, Oct. 16, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Odyssey in Granada Hills. The details are in the flyer below. Please RSVP.
It’s an opportunity for citizens to meet-and-greet legislative representatives and community leaders from the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys, Burbank, Glen-dale, and Calabasas. Be there! The Southland Regional Association of Realtors® is a local trade association with more than 8,900 members serving the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys. SRAR is one of the largest local associations in the nation.
