The Energy (R)Evolution

• The world is at the cusp of an energy revolution.

• Renewable Energy promises to be the hero for energy parched economies and is no longer ‘Alternative’ Energy anymore

• Over the last decade 430,000 MW of renewable energy capacity has been installed, with global total investment reaching a record $ 257 billion in 2011

• Solar PV prices have fallen on average by 60%, promising cheaper and sustainable power for everyone and reaching grid parity soon.

The Indian Renewable Energy Scenario

• The entire public policy on Solar for India is dictated by the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission launched in 2009. It talks about achieving 20,000MW of energy generation through Solar in three phases:

– 1000 MW by 2013

– Additional 3000 MW by 2017

– Finally reach 20,000 MW by 2022

• In addition to this, each state is announcing its own solar policy, eg:

– Tamilnadu – 3000 MW (1000 MW - Grid connected, 1000 MW - REC & 1000 MW – Off grid)

– Andhra Pradesh – 1000 MW

• Wind power has immense potential in India with total power capacity projected to 779 GW in 2035.

• This huge push for renewable energy will ensure India will be among the largest markets in the world for Renewable Energy.

Our Work - Solar Advisory

Client 1 – 250 kW Grid Connected Solar Power plant: Providing Concept to Commission services for a

newly formed power projects company where the work includes Policy Advisory, Technical and Financial Analysis, Turnkey Project Management and REC Process Consulting. Next in the offing is a 10

MW Solar plant for the same client.

Client 2 – 1MW and 250 kW Grid Connected Solar Power plant: A reputed EPC company for Thermal

Power plants wanted to enter the Solar Grid connected power area. EfficientCarbon provided feasibility advisory services for two of their grid connected plants of 1MW and 250 KW capacity where

the work included Policy Advisory, Technical and Financial Feasibility Analysis

Client 3 – Off-grid solar power plants go to market implementation: Provided go-to market service to

a reputed LED and off-grid solar products manufacturing company as a part of the JNNSM NABARD off-grid home lighting scheme in Guntur. Established and scaled up the distribution channel for the

Our Work – Sustainability & Carbon Management

Maha Cements: Maha Cements is a partly owned company of the CRH group, Ireland. When the CRH group had to

report its emissions worldwide, it issued a directive to Maha Cements to report its emissions and set targets to

reduce them. EfficientCarbon helped Maha Cements account for its emissions and set a baseline of emissions in the

Scope 1, 2 and 3 categories. EfficientCarbon also helped set a strategy to achieve 20% reduction in its emissions

through a combination of alternate fuels, transportation efficiency and reduced electricity consumption.

Capital IQ: Capital IQ is a leading provider of data and analytics for global financial professionals. A Standard and

Poor business, it serves more than 4200 clients across the world. Supported by IYCN, EfficientCarbon completed a

Carbon Footprint Assessment of the company and mapped its entire emissions into Scope 1, 2 and 3 categories as

per the accepted GHG protocol standards. Then, a target to reduce emissions across the organisation was agreed

with the company and the necessary recommendations were made.

Sagar Global Business School - SGBS: SGBS is a part of the Sagar Group, Andhra Pradesh. EfficientCarbon has

designed and implemented a unique specialisation in Green Business for the management students of the institution

with emphasis on Building Sustainable Enterprises, Green Finance and Mitigating & Adapting to Climate Change as

future managers. This course will be standardised and will be offered as an inherent specialisation for the future

batches of this institution.

Our Work – Energy Efficiency

Cancer Institute: A philanthropic hospital, housing 423 beds of which 297 are free treating over 1,25,000 patients

annually. EfficientCarbon, conducted an energy audit and provided solutions to reduce its energy consumption by

more than 20% annually. This was through multiple solutions that required zero or minimal investment. The effective

payback of the investments recommended were at less than 2 years.

APCOB: AP Cooperative Bank is a scheduled bank having a vast network connected via Rural branches. As a part of

its energy efficiency program, EfficientCarbon has completed an energy audit and identified more than 30% of

energy savings in the facility. Soon, this model will be replicated across its facilities in India and APCOB will look at

saving lakhs of rupees in energy bills every year.

International Copper Promotion Council of India - ICPCI: Almost 80% of electrical energy consumption in industries

come from motors. EfficientCarbon is providing tools for ICPCI to help estimate the energy consumption by motors,

their replacement time, savings potential and thereby promote energy efficiency in motors. This will be provided to

companies and industries that include PAT customers, SMEs and large energy consuming units.

Our Work – Training and Outreach

IYCN & US Consulate: Supported by the US Consulate , IYCN conducted intensive training for people from varied

background on Carbon Accounting and Energy Auditing. EfficientCarbon conducted the necessary technical sessions

for the attendees and trained them in pursuing Carbon Accounting and Energy Auditing. The teams went on to

conduct multiple audits in other organisations under the guidance of EfficientCarbon.

EWB & APPCB: When APPCB and EWB wanted to educate under graduate engineers about the effects of climate

change, importance of environment and how to reduce Carbon Footprint, EfficientCarbon executed the entire

program touching almost 1000 students in 5 colleges. Now, the team is working actively to introduce the concept

of ‘Green Squads’ in engineering , degree and medical colleges across AP.

Thank You

"Sustainability is not only absolutely necessary considering the

situation our planet is in, we as companies are also overdue to

take responsibility. We can't wait for governments. Companies

have to lead the way…
