Scatter containers (such as tuna or soup cans) throughout the landscape you plan on watering. Use a rain gauge for this as well.2. Run the sprinkler zone for a defined period of time, and measure the depth in each can. Try to use a uniform can size.3. The results will tell you how long you must irrigate, and will pinpoint problem areas. Adjust irrigation times accordingly.4. A ½” of water twice a week is recommended, depending on weather. Don’t water while it is raining and water from 6pm - 10am.

Choosing to water a brown lawn is a waste of water, the plants energy reserves, and you end up with a less healthy lawn in the long run.• Promote deep root growth by watering deeper, less often.• Water when the chance for evaporation is at its lowest, from 6pm – 10am. There is also a City of Moscow Ordinance that restricts sprinkler use at any other time.• Watch the weather forecast before watering and applying fertilizer. Don’t do either if it is going to rain.• Water evenly and the right amount.
