Spirotetramat?

Spirotetramat is a new compound which belongs to the chemicalclass of ketoenols, product of Bayer CropScience company.

During last few years spirotetramat as Movento 100 SC wastested at the Research Institute of Horticulture in Skierniewice(central Poland) in the control of few most important pests ofblackcurrant and strawberry plantations.

In case of blackcurrant pests spirotetramat (Movento 100 SC ‐0.75 and 1.0 l/ha) was applied either before or after bloom.

On strawberry plantations the pest control treatment wasperformed after fruit harvest.

Control of black‐currant pests

Blackcurrant bushes are damage by few species of pests and some of them have to be controlled every year.

Page 4: Efficacy a new active ingredient spirotetramat (Movento ... · Blackcurrant leaf midge – Dasineura tetensicontrol on blackcurrant Spirotetramat used onceafter bloom gave good control

Big bud mite – Cecidophyopsis ribis

One of the most important pests of blackcurrant – it can damage even more than 50‐60 % of buds.

It is noted on almost all grown cultivars.

In Poland there is a new Polish cultivar ’Polares’ resistant to big bud mite and some less sensitive cvs. ’Tisel’, ’Ruben’, ’Gofert’ and ’Tihope’.

Currently only fenpiroxymate (Ortus 05 S.C.) is permitted to control the pest.

We are looking for some new or other products to control C. ribis.

Spirotetramat used once after bloom gave good control (up to 100 %) of the blackcurrant leaf midge (D. tetensi), but much better results were obtained when the treatment was performed at the start of larvae feeding. Spirotetramat showed very long lasting efficacy???

The efficacy of spirotetramat was similar to the results obtained with reference products such as thiachloprid and lambda‐cyhalothrin.

The strawberry mite is one of  important pest on strawberry in Poland.  ???It damages the youngest leaves, reduces the size and quality of the fruit as well as the quantity of the yield. It must be controlled in the nurseries (mother plantations) and on some commercial plantations.

Two‐spotted spider mite damages older leaves. It is also common pest on many strawberry plantations.

We are still looking for relatively new products to controlboth mentioned pests on strawberry.

Strawberry mite (Phytonemus pallidus) and two‐spottedspider mite – Tetranychus urticae control on strawberry

Spirotetramat applied once or twice, after fruit harvest, showed high efficacy in the control of the strawberry mite (P. pallidus). Pest population started to rebuild three weeks after just a single treatment.

After two applications the efficacy was at a high level (over 90 %) even upto five weeks after last treatment. The results obtained with spirotetramat were similar or even better than those obtained with the reference product – pirydaben (Sanmite 20 WP).

Spirotetramat as Movento 100 SC also reduced the two‐spotted spider mite (Tetranychus urticae) population.

Conclusions

BlackcurrantAfter completion of the registration procedures,  spirotetramat ‐Movento 100 SC, may be used after blossom of blackcurrant to control several  pests: big bud mite, aphids, blackcurrant leaf midge and and two‐spotted spider mite.

It can also be applied to reduce the population of blackcurrant stem midge.

Strawberry Spirotetramat may be applied after fruit harvest to control strawberry mite and two‐spotted spider mite.

This product will be a useful tool in the integrated plant protection programme.
