BEFORE REMOVING THE OLD TRANSMISSION

You MUST have a scanner and scan the vehicle for any codes. All codes MUST be fixed BEFORE installing the new transmission.

MANDATORY INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS1. The cooling system on this vehicle MUST be replaced. The plate cooler in this vehicle

cannot be properly flushed and is a non-serviceable component which must be replaced with new.

2. This transmission is an electronically controlled unit that requires a quick learn to be activated with capable scan tool.

Aftermarket Transmission Programming/Tuning is discouraged and will void warranty if deemed cause of failure.

Replacement of the line pressure sensor is highly recommended.

Important OEM TSB:NUMBER: 1803707

REV. A

GROUP: Vehicle Performance

DATE: July 20, 2007

THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 1803707,

DATED MAY 25, 2007, WHICH SHOULD BE

REMOVED FROM YOUR FILES. ALL REVISIONS ARE HIGHLIGHTED WITH **ASTERISKS** AND INCLUDE A

CHANGE TO THE

IGNITION SWITCH POSITION WHEN PERFORMING SECTION A TCM

CIRCUIT TEST.

THE StarSCAN(R) FLASH FILES FOR THIS BULLETIN ARE AVAILABLE VIA THE INTERNET.

SUBJECT:

68RFE Transmission DTC

P0868 Low Line Pressure

OVERVIEW:

This bulletin involves checking the Transmission Control Module (TCM) to determine that it is in proper working order

and then selectively

erasing and reprogramming the TCM with new software.

MODELS:

2007 (DH/D1) Ram Truck (2500/3500)

NOTE:

This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 68RFE automatic transmission (sale code DG7) built on or before

April 30, 2007 (MDH

0430XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The customer may experience a Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination due to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DIG)

P0868 Low

Line

Pressure

This condition may be due to the Transmission Control Module (1CM) software or to a hardware circuit in the TCM.

DIAGNOSIS:

Using a StarSCAN(R) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify all engine

systems are functioning as

designed. If DTCs are present record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with

this bulletin.

If the vehicle operator describes or experiences the Symptom/Condition, perform the Repair Procedure.

Reprogramming to the latest Calibration is recommended whenever an update is available. This will increase overall transmission performance and longevity.

1) Reprogramming in shop with your own tools and software requires:

A. Go to www.techauthority.com/ , select Online Subcriptions, follow the prompts on Programming site. Purchase the required subscription (at the time this was created a 24hr license was $24.95)

B. Follow the instructions on the website without interruption. Any time programing is interrupted you run the risk of damaging the modules.

Call Moveras Technical Support for additional step by step assistance.

Reprogramming Tools required:

-Dedicated Laptop with cable connection to internet

-SAE compatible J2534 pass through device

-Power supply for the laptop

-Power supply for vehicle must be designed for reprogramming

Verify proper shifter cable adjustment:

• Set the transmission to park and attempt to turn the wheels. If the wheels DO NOT turn then you are in park.

• Now rotate the linkage two detents(clicks) in the opposite direction of park (this verifies you are in neutral).

• Now have an assistant select neutral with the vehicles shift lever. The cable end and manual lever should line up. Now connect the cable end.*Look up adjustment procedure if one is needed.

Properly fill with ATF +4 Automatic Transmission Fluid:

BEFORE YOU START THE VEHICLE fluid must be touching the bottom of the stick.

Make sure the Vehicle is on level ground Start the vehicle and move the shift through all ranges pausing for 3 secs

in each range. Final level check, engine idling, transmission in park or neutral. DO NOT

OVERFILL

Quick Learn: 1. Use a scan tool capable of performing the Quick learn procedure2. TFT 158-230°F (70-110°C), Move the selector in/out of gear 3 times3. Select the Quick learn process from the scan tool menu4. To perform the Quick Learn Procedure, the following conditions must be

met:5. 1. The brakes must be applied.6. 2. The engine speed must be above 500 rpm.7. 3. The throttle angle (TPS) must be less than 3 degrees.8. 4. The shift lever position must stay in PARK until prompted to shift to

overdrive.9. 5. The shift lever position must stay in overdrive after the Shift to

Overdrive prompt10. until the scan tool indicates the procedure is complete.11. 6. The calculated oil temperature must be above 60°F and below 200°F.

The quick learn procedure will not run if:• DTC’s are set• TFT is not between 158-230 °F (70-110°C)• The brake switch is not working• TP is 0% but engine RPM increases during the test• P/N switch is improperly adjusted or is not functioning correctly• Line pressure control system is malfunctioning

After this procedure it still may take several days of driving the vehicle for the transmission to fully adapt and begin to shift properly. You MUST drive easy for the first 300miles after a Quick Learn is done. This includes no towing or accelerations above ½ throttle.

Quick learn should be performed any time:

The battery is disconnected Major transmission repair Solenoid block replacement TCM calibration changed

Once the reprogramming and Quick Learn steps are complete, perform a thorough test drive with multiple accelerations and from a stop with light to medium throttle application.

W00033 Rev 1.1

This transmission WILL FAIL if the Quick Learn process is not completed. This failure

could happen during initial road test.

Rescan the vehicle. If codes are present, compare these to the original codes. Use a scan tool for DTC’s and correct the codes and re-road test the vehicle.

INSTALLATION CHECKLIST

o Scan vehic le and fix al l codes

o Replace the cool ing system (Radiator) and replace or c lean cool ing l ines

o Inspect flex plate for cracks or breakage. Damaged flex p lates are common

o Compare bolt pattern on flex plate to bolt pattern on new torque converter

o Inspect crankshaft pilot bore for wear and apply grease to aid with installation

o Co m p a r e r e p l a ce m en t t r a n s mi s s i o n an d t o r q u e converter to original before installation

o Verify all dowel pins are present, clean, and in good condition – these are critical for proper alignment

o Do not tighten bel l housing bolts with force; may damage torque converter if shifted in transit

o Inspect wiring harness and connector for damage and /or corrosion

o Inspect entire electrical system including ground, battery, alternator, mass air flow sensor and throttle position sensor.
