Ratlam TRD Department came into existence on 26th June 1985 with the electrification of
Godhra – Limkheda section. The first Electric Locomotive hauled Goods Train was introduced on
Godhra – Ratlam section of the division on 29th Nov. 1986. The first Electric Passenger train was
introduced in 1987 when 20 UP Dehradun Express hauled by power number 20491 was flagged off
on 6th Dec 1986. The first Electric passenger carrying train which came in DN direction was 25 DN
on the same day. 1st Feb 1988 is a date to be remembered the most as on this day the Bombay-Delhi
route was completed and 20 UP was flagged off..
Electrification work is on progress, section of Ujjain – Indore section (79.23 RKM),
Maksi-Dewas section (35.31 RKM) electrified on 30.03.12, 03.12.12 respectively. The most recent
sections Indore - Dr. Ambedkar Nagar (20.97 RKM) has been electrified on 31.03.17.
Electrification work in Ratlam – Fatehabad Chandrawatiganj - Laxmibai Nagar section
(127.51 TKM), Ratlam – Nimach – Chanderiya section (239.16 TKM), Shambhupura –
Chittaurhgarh double line section (57.78 TKM), Mathela – Khandwa bypass - Nimarkheri
section (55.84 TKM) and Doubling of Gambhiri Bridge (1.83 TKM) have been completed and
CRS authorizations have been accorded for all these newly electrified sections.
Presently Ratlam TRD department looks after 946.214 electrified Route Kms which are fed by
25 KV traction supply from 13 different Traction Substations (TSS). These has been drawing
electric power supply for hauling passenger and goods trains on electric traction in Madhya Pradesh
and Gujarat State area from RGPPL & JIPTL for TSS of MP w.e.f. 22.01.16 & for Gujrat is being
procured from RGPPL (w.e.f Jan. 16) under open access scheme.

8. Achievements of TRD Ratlam:-
i. Electrification of Diesel Shed Track, Ratlam:-The Electrification work of diesel shed, Ratlam
amounting to 3.97 Crore was sanctioned in the material modification of RE work. HQ decided to
maintain WAG-5 class locomotives at Diesel Shed, Ratlam to improve mobility therefore contemplating
at the exigency and necessity, electrification of 2.12 TKM from Ratlam station to Diesel shed has been
carried out departmentally by TRD department of Ratlam Division. The scope of this departmental work
involved cutting & pollarding of 154 nos. trees, casting of 42 nos. foundations, loading, unloading,
erection & grouting of 36 nos. masts, 39 nos. cantilevers and 08 nos. terminations. Despite of heavy
rainfall during the foundation work, daily planning was devised and the electrification work was
completed within record time of 29 days and OHE was commissioned on 29.08.19.
ii. Replacement of bridges and provision of LHS: 23 nos. bridges have been replaced and 06 nos.
LHS have been made in Ratlam division in current financial year. Also the work of 57 nos. LHS is
under progress. TRD deptt. has imparted ample facilitation during bridge & LHS works by
deploying sufficient manpower for OHE slewing, restoration and bonding works and all the works
were completed within minimum time.
iii. Shifting of portal to facilitate the provision of new lift at Ratlam Station:One no. N-type
portal of RTM passenger yard loc. 654/41-42 was dismantled and shifted to facilitate the provision
of lift at PF no. 5 of Ratlam station. The foundation, erection, load shifting & dismantling work
were done departmentally by TRD deptt.

iv. Utilization of waste porcelain housing of interrupters at Rail Udyaan, Ratlam: 05 nos. lamp-
posts have been made by using waste porcelain housing of interrupters and provided near PF No.4
at newly developed Rail Udyaan, Ratlam. These lamp posts are being used to lighten up and
beautify the greenery during night hours by improving the aesthetics of garden.
v. Electrification of Dewas Bank Note Press Railway Siding :- Electrification of Dewas Bank
Note Press Railway Siding having 2.2 TKM has been completed by TRD department and siding
was charged with 25 KV AC on 16.03.2019. Earlier rake placement was being done with the help
of Diesel Locomotives which had to be brought at Dewas either from UJN or INDB. Now after
electrification of BNP siding, placements of rakes are being done by Electric Locomotive without
any extra crew and Loco.
vi. Provision of Availability Based Tariff meter at TSS: The work for providing ABT meters in 08
nos. TSS of MP state have been completed by TRD deptt. The scope of work covered provision
of 0.2S Class of accuracy metering CT and PTs with structures & check meters at all the TSS of
MP.

vii. Provision of traction energy management server:- In order to facilitate accurate forecasting &
scheduling of traction energy under open access regime and provide necessary data to SLDC as
per regulations, traction energy management server is being provided at RCC, Ratlam. A modified
RTU complying the requirements of new EMS has been provided at DHD/TSS on dt. 07.10.19.
viii. Removal of operational constraint from RTM yard, NAD yard & BPCL siding/MGG:
• 01 no. operating constraint was removed at Nagda yard by providing 180mtrs OHE on dead end
no. 2, which will ease and reduce time in shunting of locos while runround.
• 01 no. operating constraint removed at RTM platform no.02, line no. 11 by providing modified
cantilever arrangement on dead end, which will permit dead end to place AC locomotive.
• 01 no. operating constraint removed at BPCL siding of MGG yard by providing 9.60 mtrs OHE
from Gantry, which will ease placement of rake without guard wagon.
• Modification in existing sectioning arrangement of MGG has been done to ease the movement
of goods trains in line no. 1 & 2. Earlier elementary section of both the goods line was common
so in case of loading & unloading both lines are affected due to power block. Now after suitable
modification, entering & leaving of trains has been eased.
ix. Augmentation of Traction Transformers capacity by replacing 12.5 MVA to 30 MVA
transformers at Mohammadkhera and Sehore TSS of Ratlam division : -
12.5 MVA capacity traction transformers have been replaced & augmented by 30 MVA capacity
transformers at Mohammadkhera & Sehore TSS in Nagda-Bhopal section. TR-17 & TR-18 of
Sehore TSS and TR-15 & TR-16 of Mohammadkhera TSS.

x. 132 KV BUSHING REPLACEMENT:- 04 nos. 132 KV Bushings of traction transformers (21.6
MVA) have been departmentally replaced at Naikheri, Dahod & Nagda substation.
xi. PROVISION OF MODIFIED BENT STEADY ARM-28 nos. bent steady arm of cantilever
assembly on GDA-NAD section have been replaced by modified steady arm with drop bracket to
suit 160 KMPH speed leaving no further scope.
xii. PROVISION OF BURRIED RAIL AND EXTRA EARTHING AT SP/SSPS : - Buried rail and
extra earthing have been provided at all SWS to improve earthing system as per RDSO SMI no.
TI/MI/0032 rev-1 Dated 01.04.2014system.

xiii. REPLACEMENT OF LOW CAPACITY ISOLATORS :- Division has replaced all the 52 nos.
low capacity (850Amp) isolators of mainline by higher capacity (1600 Amp).
xiv. REPLACEMENT OF ‘G’ JUMPER 105 SQMM BY 160 SQMM : -
Division has replaced all 345 nos. G jumpers of 105 sq.mm. by 160sqmm in heavy loaded area
(Between TSS and First SSPs) to improve system reliability.
xv. REMOVAL OF CONVENTIONAL OVERLAP TYPE NEUTRAL SECTION :-
Existing eight nos. conventional overlap type neutral sections at Limkheda, Meghnagar,
Morwani & Khachrod of Rajdhani route have been removed to suit the train operations @
160 KMPH speed.

xvi. REPLACEMENT OF RUSTY CANTILEVER :-
96 nos. rusty cantilevers assembly have been replaced by new.
9. INNOVATIONS OF TRD RTM :--
(i) Online Thermo vision camera :-
For Detection & monitoring of hot spot defects of OHE with the help of On Line Thermo vision
Camera. This system can be mounted on the roof of Locomotive or Tower Wagon for detecting
Hot-spots.
(ii) Provision of Voltage sensing Device in Tower Wagon. :-
To ensure extra safety during the power block, we have developed a voltage sensing device to sense
OHE. By providing this, staff may confirm before providing discharge rod on OHE by watching this
voltage sensing device indication in tower wagon whenever OHE is ''ON or OFF''

(iii) Provision of Voltage Sensing Device in Traction substation :-
In traction substation there is no potential transformer provided in EHV (132 KV) side. In case
of failure of 132 KV supply and subsequent restoration, there is no indication of the supply
restoration unless the transformer is energized and the staff on manning duty ensures physical
humming of the transformer. To overcome this problem, the sensing device has been developed
to monitor the availability of the primary supply by the traction power controller at control center
away from the substation. Voltage sensing device can be interfaced with remote control units of
SCADA system. This facilitates the power controller to take definite prompt action in the event
of failure of 132 KV power supply. The system developed is inexpensive and requires minimum
maintenance.
(iv) Provision of contact less sensing device in lieu of potential transformer for indication purpose
at switching post :-
At UJN/SSP an induction based device has been provided in lieu of PT for catenary indication on
trial basis. As such the cost of potential transformer is saved approximate Rs. 75 thousands per AT
by provision of this arrangement.
10 ASSISTANCE REQUIRED :
Electrification work of RTM- FTD-LMNR (115.6 RKM, 146 TKM) & RTM-NMH-COR-
CNA (197 RKM, 239.16 TKM) is ongoing at fast pace. Creation of two posts of ADEE/TRD is
essentially required at Indore and Chittaurgarh to oversee the RTM-LMNR-DADN and RTM-
CNA sections respectively.

OHE maintenance tower cars of TRD unit have been thoroughly cleaned duly
maintaining social distancing and completely sanitized with sprayer from top to bottom
in order to ensure safety of staff from COVID-19 virus.

• SPECIAL DRIVE REGARDING PRECAUTIONS AGAINST COVID-19-
All 413 staff of TRD, Ratlam jurisdictions have been counseled by their respective
section Incharge. During counseling following points were explained to staff so as to
assure safety of staff and their families from COVID-19 virus at workplace and home:
1. Tips for often washing of hands were given and right way of hand wash was
explained.
2. Face masks were distributed to staff and they have been instructed to strictly
wear face masks.
3. It was instructed that nobody will get in touch with sick people.
4. One must always cover while coughing or sneezing.
5. If anyone is having difficulty in breathing/sore throat/high fever/dry cough then
this is the symptom of COVID-19. Such person shall immediately isolate himself
and inform nearest medical facility without fail.

• GUIDELINES REGARDING IMPROVING IMMUNITY-
All TRD staff have been advised to go through the guidelines issued by “Ministry of
Ayush” in connection with “Immunity boosting measures for self care from COVID-19”
and follow the same for family members as well as per individual’s convenience.
• USING AAROGYA SETU APPLICATION-
All TRD staff have installed, registered & started using “Aarogya Setu App” and ensured
usage of this App on mobile phones of their family members as well. Self assessment
tests are being done by staff on this App. Social distancing is being strictly followed as
mentioned in the application. Staff have been instructed to go through and follow DOs
and DON’Ts mentioned in this App. We have also asked other people to use this App.
• ENSURING FITMENT OF OHE DURING LOCKDOWN-
During lockdown, movement of passenger train has been stopped but essential service
are still ON. Railways is also playing an important role in to & fro movement of goods and
parcels. In order to ensure uninterrupted movement of essential train services, TRD
deptt planned to launch a special drive duly maintaining social distancing with minimal
staff. We have done inspections of following assets to ensure reliability:
1. Liveline checking of OHE in GDA-BPL & UJN-DADN sections.
2. Footpatrolling of each station yard and section – 1344.35 TKM (Every fortnight)
3. Trimming of trees to minimize falling of trees on OHE
4. Removal of bird nests to avoid CB tripping & supply failure
5. Battery health of all 55 TRD TSS, SP & SSPs checked by our staff.

Special drive was launched to check all lightening arrestors ofdivision with surge monitors. TC was also issued in this concern.
Special drive was launched for checking large span wire endingcones by binocular to avoid breakdown due to slipping off OHE.
Drive has been launched to check vulnerable & old trees to cutthem off so as to prevent them falling on OHE.
Special drive was launched for thorough examination of underframe of all tower wagons regarding attention to rust andtightness.

Catenary wires inside catenary suspension brackets are beingchecked after loosing and opening the suspension bracket so as toassure “no breakage of strands”.
Loco roof checking and pantograph inspection are being jointlydone to assure pantograph fitness.
Fortnight checking & requisite cleaning of insulators are beingensured in polluted zone.
Fitness of bonding and earthing system is being ensured in time.
Special drive was launched for checking the earth resistance &fitment of all earth electrodes of OHE & PSI installations.
