The department is looking for PhD students in the areas of WirelessCommunication, Signal Processing, Microelectronics, Power and
Control.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates having B.Tech and MTech degrees in Electrical Engineering/Electronics and Communication Engineering are eligible to apply for the
PhD program in the department
Selection:The department reserves the right to set any cut off criteria for
shortlisting the candidates. The shortlisted candidates will be called forinterview. The department has the right not to select any if appropriate
candidates are not found.
TravelTravel expenditure will be reimbursed as per institute norms
Interview Call LetterThe shortlisted candidates will be informed about the interview date and
time by sms/email.

About the Department of Electrical Engineering
The department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Hyderabad offersprograms in B.Tech, M. Tech and PhD. The department consists of 12faculty members 161 B.Tech, 25 M.Tech, and 14 PhD students.
The department comprises of a diverse group of faculty memberswith varied research interests and has produced more than 25research publications in internationally reputed journals andconference. The department has sponsored research worth than 20Crore. Most of the faculty research areas are a healthy mix oftraditional Electrical Engineering and interdisciplinary research.
Structure of PhD Program
1. Coursework: Minimum of 4 courses with good academic performance
2. Proposal Defence: At the end of first year, candidate should submit a thesis proposal and
defend it in front of the Doctoral Committee.
3. Thesis: High quality research resulting in publications in reputed international journals such
as IEEE Transactions.
Information About Research in the Department
1. Microelectronics: Analog and Digital IC Design, fabrication and modeling of semiconductor
devices, electrical and thermal Modelling, 3-D IC and MEMS, electronics cooling, micro-
fluidics (Pulsatile flow, Fluidic logic and blood flow) and Energy Harvesting.
2. Power & Control: Power Systems, Power Electronics, Control Systems and Robotics.
3. Communications & Signal Processing: Wireless Communications, Cognitive Radio, Sensor
Networks, Cyber Physical Systems, Signal Processing, Networking, Multimedia and Speech
Processing.
PhD Selection ProcessThe selection is a two-stage process for each of the above mentioned groups. Candidates called for
selection should choose one of the three groups for consideration. The first stage is a written test
(for syllabus, see below). Candidates selected in the written test will have to appear for an interview
in the second stage of the selection process. Final selection will be made based on both the written
test and the interview.
