Roundtable Discussion on Resource Efficiency Strategy and Prioritised Sectors in India (Session organised by NITI Aayog, GoI) Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy is an important area of mutual interest for India and EU and offers potential for increased cooperation. In November 2017, the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog along with EU Delegation to India released the Strategy on Resource Efficiency (RE). The objective of the RE Strategy was to make recommendations for enhancing the resource-use efficiency in the Indian economy and industry by creating an ecosystem for improving the resource security and minimising environmental impacts. Institutional development and strengthening on RE was identified as an important step in this regard. Through a moderated discussion, potential areas for intensified cooperation to strengthen frameworks, exchange knowledge and build partnerships for the development of solutions and models to enhance RE in India will be deliberated.

INSTITUTIONALISATION OF RESOURCE EFFICIENCY IN INDIA
The RE strategy implementation in India proposes the need for setting up a Bureau for Resource Efficiency which creates a prominence and enabling platform for this topic. The Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change has launched a Resource Efficiency Cell. The session will focus on policy discussions on setting up frameworks for institutional strengthening and learnings from EU on the governance frameworks.
