General Update

• Data Validation onboarding procedures created for Course Providers

• Draft Educator Application form created (see FAQs: How can my organization become an educator?)

• Industry and course provider communications drafted by GIC for circulation in due course

General Update - Equivalencies• Q2 2015 – Equivalencies Committee formed by GIC• Q4 2015 - GIC approved Equivalencies• Q4 2015 - Regulatory amendment submission to

GOA, to facilitate equivalencies in Alberta• Q1 2016 - CEO and COO met with SOI, Nilam Jetha,

to discuss regulatory amendments• Q3 2016 – 2017 CEO continued to raise outstanding

issue of equivalencies with SOI and Deputy Minister• 2017 and 2018 concluded with no furtherance• Regulations expire April 30, 2020 – opportunity

Data Validation InitiativeObjective:

• To verify and guide educator performance through independently validated examination statistics.

• To certify minimum student training method and course provider prior to challenging the General Level 1 regulatory examination.

• To publish examination pass rates of course providers to students and the public, with full transparency.

Proposed Timeline

Core Source Material• GIC consulted with industry academics and subject

matter experts to commence development of coresource material

• Full, transparent access to materials will be grantedto all educators

• Released through distribution by AIC to courseproviders only. No public distribution.

• Finalization: Q2 2020• Examination questions will reflect language and

terminology of core source materials for betterclarity to students

Data Validation - ReviewEducators’ Feedback and Consultation Findings

• Requested better data and statistics re: exam performance• Data collection info not specific/detailed enough for

individuals or in aggregate• Would like sample exam questions & multi Level exam results• Number of commercial and personal type questions should be

equal (perceived too many commercial questions)• Would like breakdown of curriculum measured objectives• Want study manual• Reports to course providers are pass/fail for first writes only –

request detailed reports by individual or group

Course Provider Onboarding - Process• We will contact each General Level 1 course provider and

provide a registration form to be completed and returned.

• Our GLQP coordinator will schedule a time for initial setupand onboarding with each provider. One-on-one approach. Initial setup of course delivery types. Instruction for recording student qualification.

General License Qualification – Soft Launch• October 1st, 2019• Educators start recording student participation by CIPR# on

Canadian Insurance Participant Registry (CIPR) portal.• Participation entered by course delivery method.

Classroom settingWeb delivery Self-study (only materials supplied.)

• Students can still register for exam without “qualification”• If a qualification has been entered it will be utilized.

General License Qualification – Hard Launch• January 1st, 2020• Educators must record student participation by CIPR# on

Canadian Insurance Participant Registry (CIPR) portal.• All General Level 1 training must be through an approved

educator.• Students must have a valid GLQP “qualification” associated to

their CIPR account in order to register for General Level 1exam.

• GLQP qualification is valid for 1 year following the dateentered by the educator.
