On-Line Inauguration Program of e-Yantra Robotics Laboratory

In association with IIT-Bombay, Institute has set-up e-Yantra Robotics Laboratory whose on-line inauguration program was arranged on 3 May, 2018. e-Yantra is an initiative taken by IIT-Bombay with support of MHRD, Govt. of India to create necessary eco-system at colleges to enable creative learning through medium of robotics and embedded systems. Under this initiative, around 280+ robotics laboratories have been set-up across India. The inauguration program also included felicitation of Institute faculties by IIT-Bombay for successfully completing Task Based Training. e-Yantra Robotics Laboratory is equipped with number of robotics trainer platforms like Firebird V, Spark V, Dexter ER-2 Heavy duty robot as well as number of peripherals and accessories.

GTU Foundation Day Celebration

Foundation Day of Gujarat Technological University was celebrated at the campus jointly by Degree and Diploma Institute on 16 May 2018. The program was attended by faculties and students at the Institute. As a part of the program GTU song was played and various activities and achievements of GTU were highlighted. In the function, Dr. R. G. Dhamsaniya was congratulated for being appointed as Associate Dean for Zone-4 at GTU. In his address, Dr. Dhamsnaiya explained importance and role of each individual in University system and how each one can contribute towards continuous improvement of the system.



Educational Events

AICTE-ISTE Approved Short Term Training Program

Department of Computer Engineering organized one week short term training program (STTP) on Emerging Trends in Networking and Security in Connected World during 7-11 May, 2018. The objective of the program was to learn and share new technologies as well as to interact with community for mutual benefits. The program was inaugurated by Dr. D. C. Jinwala, Professor & Head Department of Computer Engineering, SVNIT, Surat. Other experts who contributed to this program includes Dr. Ritesh Patel (Assistant Professor, Charusat University, Changa), Mr. Daxeel Soni (Sofware Engineer, Botix Labs, Ahmedabad), Mr. Vivek Sancheti (Co-Founder & CEO, EYUVA Internet Pvt. Ltd, Rajkot), Dr. Rakesh D. Vanzara (Head of Department, UVPCE, Mehsana), and Dr. N. N. Jani (Director, SKPIMCS, Gandhinagar). Around 16 participants joined the training. The program was organized in association with All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE).

Student Achievement

Selected for Google India Developer Nanodegree Scholarship

Kavya Halani (BE Sem. 6, CE) has earned 6-month Google India Developer Nanodegree Scholarship from Google. This is through Udacity’s web Nanodegree Scholarship Program. As a part of this she will be working towards Front End Web Developer Nanodegree. She has been selected for the scholarship on basis of her bright performance in Google India Challenge Scholarship. The scholarship program is from 29 May – 29 Nov., 2018. This achievement is worth appreciating because from thousands of students who apply for this scholarship only limited number of students are selected.

Appointed as Associate Dean GTU Zone-4

Dr. R. G. Dhamsaniya has been appointed as Associate Dean at Gujarat Technological University representing Zone-4 (Rajkot zone). It is worth to know that GTU appoints Associate Dean one from each zone who assists Vice Chancellor in maintaining academic standards and coordinating teaching and research activities for that zone.

Paper presented in National Conference

Mr. N. K. Jotangia, Librariar – DIETDS, participated in a National Conference on Libraries in 21st Century held at Diu College, Diu on 12 May, 2018. The conference was sponsored by Raja Ram Mohan Roy Library Foundation, Kolkata under Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India. In the conference he presented a paper on Importance of Plagiarism and Copyrights in Research and Different Ways to Prevent Plagiarism in Research.

NPTEL Online Certificate Course

Following faculties have successfully completed online certification course offered during Jan.-April 2018 through NPTEL. It is worth to know that NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) is a joint initiative of IITs and IISc through which various online courses are offered every semester with facility to earn certification from IITs & IISc. These online course are free for all to learn and have very nominal fees for appearing in certification exam to earn certificate. Every semester number of students and faculties from the Institute participate in these courses and get benefited.

Pneumatic Laboratory Pneumatic components are integral part of wide range of Mechanical systems. This covers areas like industrial automation, mechatronics, robotics, intelligent control, etc. Pneumatic laboratory has been developed at the Department to enrich student’s learning experience on pneumatic systems - components, design and applications. The laboratory is fully equipped with pneumatic kits from Janatics Pneumatics, a leading manufacture of pneumatic products in India. The kit includes set-up on basic pneumatic, advanced pneumatic, electro-pneumatic and automation.

Robotics Laboratory Robotics is a platform where students from different engineering disciplines works together to implement their innovative ideas into real life application. With an aim to provide such a platform, Robotics laboratory has been set up at the Department. It is equipped with varieties of robotic kits and accessories and is also associated with IIT Bombay under e-Yantra project.
