Excursions to the National Gallery of Australia can open your students’ eyes to some of the most creative, thought-provoking and original works of art to be seen in Australia. Visiting the collection is free and works that showcase Australian and international art – including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art, Asian art, photography, and decorative arts and design – are on permanent display.

The Gallery offers a range of education services that can enhance the learning experience for you and your students. Be inspired by works of art when discussing key learning areas such as the arts, English, studies of society and environment, languages other than English, technology and health. Investigate Aboriginal studies and Asian studies through real objects.

Education staff at the Gallery welcome teachers’ enquiries, and are available to discuss your requirements and offer suggestions to enhance your experience at the Gallery. Simply phone the Education Office on 02 6240 6519.

A range of guided tours of the permanent collection, special exhibitions and the Sculpture Garden are available on request and are free of charge. • Learning to look discovery tours introduce primary or secondary students to works of art and their context through discussion.

• Visual art in context discussion tours for primary or secondary students can be tailored to a theme of your choice, a particular exhibition and/or linked to study areas.

• Special access tours for groups with special needs and abilities are available.
