Presentation Notes
Visa explosion in Asia. Huge decreases in Latin America, Russia and Europe. Why? A survey of colleges found 87% of student recruitment efforts (trips, etc. . .) are directed at Asian nations.
International students studying in the United States brought in (added) 15 billion dollars to the U.S. economy in 2006-07. Dept of Commerce Figures. They added 1 Billion to the economy of DC/VA/MD alone.
From Zogby 9 nation poll for Poder (Interactive): Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Columbia, Peru, Venezuela, Chile, Spain, US. The imbalances in current numbers do not reflect our policy goals. Too few international students studying here. Too few of our students going abroad. We know they want to go. We know we want to go. We have to create a policy that will make it happen.
