Pate’s Grammar School

Quattro has successfully worked with the school over a number of years having gained years of experience in assisting schools to develop their estates to meet new curriculum requirements and upgrade existing facilities. At Pate’s Grammar School Quattro have successfully completed a number of projects:

1. New Build Refectory to provide kitchen, multi use dining and learning area and 3 classrooms. The building is located to take advantage of views over sports pitches while creating outdoor social spaces. Quattro undertook research to design a kitchen and dining layout capable of serving 420 pupils in 12 minutes.

2. Remodel and upgrade of sixth form areas to create a learning centre and common rooms. Quattro’s planning and interior design skills have provided a distinctive brand.

3. Remodel of existing kitchen to create an art galley/multi purpose space with green room facilities for the hall.

4. New 5 Classroom Block and improvements to external works funded partly by a generous bursary and partly through ACMF.

5. Remodel of existing design technology block to create a food technology studio.

Pate’s Grammar School

All projects have focussed on delivery of quality learning environments, providing value for money and delivered to the programme and budget.

Quattro is currently working with Pate’s on a new Premises Development Plan which will form the basis for future ACMF bids, along with implementing improved security measures over the summer holidays, the result of a successful 2014 ACMF bid.

Alderman Knight School

The existing school in a poor state of repair suffered from substandard areas, narrow corridors and poor circulation through classrooms whilst lacking natural light and ventilation.

The school underwent a radical £6M transformation addressing the special education needs of the pupils and the vision of the school to create a welcoming, inspiring and calming environment.

Quattro were selected by the school and Gloucester County Council through a competitive process to develop the brief and design options. This involved an extensive stakeholder consultation process including pupils, staff, governors and parents. The school has since been recognised for its technical and design excellence.

“Without doubt the final building is simply stunning! Not only is it visually breath-taking, physically it provides a learning environment that is as near perfect as we could have hoped for!....The classrooms are bright, light, calming, and simply inspiring, the outside environment is fun, safe but exciting.... The curves and the roof lights including our superb entrance, helps make it feel welcoming and the wonderful ethos of the School that makes us special has simply been enhanced by our transformation.”

Severn Vale Secondary School

Quattro has successfully worked with the school over a number of years and projects. We support the school’s ethos in the projects we undertake, one of inclusion, high academic achievement and concern for human qualities and relationships.

Quattro initially created a masterplan for the site, the first phase of which was a new learning resource centre. This flexible space provides library, IT, meeting and social activities and is available for use by the community. A second phase of work concentrated on the reorganisation of external areas and parking.

The new design and technology block is a flagship project completed in March 2011. The brief was to create a building that showcased the subjects and provided modern learning environments. Sustainable and energy efficient design is of paramount importance to the students. Quattro has worked closely with them to ensure their involvement in developing creative solutions.

In all the work, sustainable and energy efficient design has been paramount. This is a particular interest of students and Quattro have worked with them to ensure their requirements are met and monitored.

The Cheltenham Ladies’ College

Quattro were selected through limited competition to design a new boarding house for The Cheltenham Ladies’ College, their first new boarding house to be built for many years.

The client brief was to provide accommodation for 66 girls that would exceed the school space standards, on a constrained site in the heart of Cheltenham’s conservation area.

Early consultation with the planners and conservation department was essential and has lead to a contemporary approach that still manages to reflect the traditional values of the college and the local Regency Vernacular Architecture.

A Junior Boarding House refurbishment programme is underway and a system for decanting and carrying out works set in motion through the construction of the new boarding house.

In all the work, sustainable and energy efficient design has been paramount. This is a particular interest of students and Quattro have worked with them to ensure their requirements are met and monitored.

Worcester Sixth Form College

W6FC was a 1960’s 4 storey building, with an exposed concrete frame, rendered masonry infill panels and single glazed aluminium windows. The building overheated in summer, was too cold in winter, there was deterioration of concrete frame and water penetration.

The college selected Quattro to:• create a new outward image / brand for the college

• improve the internal environment for students

• bring the building to a standard with a 30-40 year life

• phase the project to minimise disruption to the college

The works comprised:• repair of the concrete frame

• replacement of the aluminium double glazed windows

• brise soleil solar control

• overclad masonary with composite insulated cladding

• reroof with single ply membrane and install photvoltaic array

We successfully evolved a construction strategy that allowed the college to operate successfully through the works with minimum of noise and disruption and was completed on time and to budget. Quattro are currently completing a new science block on site.
