• The Mayor’s Education Inquiry identified a knowledge gap around academic disciplines in London schools.
• The London Schools Excellence Fund is a £24m fund setup to raise education standards and support schools.
• The LSEF is focused on improving teacher subject knowledge and teacher subject pedagogy across a range of subject areas.
• There is growing evidence to indicate that this is the best way to increase pupil attainment.
LONDON SCHOOLS EXCELLENCE FUND
• Over 13,000 teachers are benefitting from the programme.
• Over 1,200 schools in London and half a million pupils are involved.
• Projects are evaluating their activity to see what initiatives have the most impact on teachers and pupils.
• Schools are collaborating, sharing, working with Universities and industry.

THE REACH OF LSEF
• London is a hotbed of talent - the Mayor is keen to nurture the next generation so the tech/digital sector can continue to thrive and be a key contributor to London’s economy.
• Digital literacy is a key educational requirement for future employees.
The past five years has seen a huge boom in new offers for schools to support digital learning. It is a huge priority for London and the rest of the UK to ensure our young people are digitally skilled!
WHY INVEST IN COMPUTING?
• Quality CPD and support was needed to raise teacher subject knowledge and confidence in this subject area
• The Mayor of London has invested more than £1.5m into computing in schools.
• The five LSEF computer science projects are together delivering computer skills to almost 500 schools and nearly 50,000 pupils.
• Primary and secondary schools taking part. Peer-to-peer learning. Key stages 1 – 5.
THE CURRICULUM CHANGE
Creative Computing
Links primary schools with secondary schools to provide innovative computing lessons. There are now 8 digital schoolhouses (secondary) across London which have worked with over 70 primary schools and 4800 pupils since September 2014.

to teach computational thinking
• New CAS regional hub – coordinating activity
across London with King’s College London
