• It has been said that Principal is the captain of the ship (School), as he/she possess the various managerial skills as will be the quality of school effectiveness.

• Researcher believe that there is positive relationship between good managerial functions and school effectiveness.

• This research studies the school effectiveness in relation to managerial function of Planning among schools of SSC and CBSE board of Thane City.

• The study has incorporated views of school teachers teaching in SSC and CBSE board schools on managerial function of Planning carried out by the school mangers/principals and its effect on School Effectiveness.

•To study the school effectiveness in terms of managerial function of Planning among different types of school board of Thane City•To find the relationship between school effectiveness of SSC and CBSE board schools in terms of managerial function of Planning.•To compare the school effectiveness of SSC and CBSE board schools in terms of managerial function of Planning.•To suggest measures to improve the school effectiveness among SSC and CBSE schools.

•The outcome of this study is helpful to all the stakeholders of school education in understanding the minute components of the managerial function of Planning which is indeed very important and may effect on enhancing the school effectiveness.

•This study is helpful to reflect on the quality issues among the administrators of the secondary schools.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

HYPOTHESIS OF THE STUDY

OPERATIONAL DEFINITIONS OF TERMS

School Effectiveness is determined by teachers of that school in terms of managerial function performed by their school leaders i.e principals, that promotes the progress of its students in a broad range of intellectual, social and emotional outcomes.

Planning function of manager is studied with a view of studying the views of school teachers teaching in SSC and CBSE boards in Thane city.

• Descriptive method of exploratory survey was used to collect the data.

• Stratified Random sampling technique was used for data collection.

• The data is gathered from the school teachers on school effectiveness and managerial function of Planning performed by the secondary school principals of SSC and CBSE board.

• The sample consisted of 140 secondary school teachers teaching in Thane City. The researcher has collected the data from 70 secondary school teachers of SSC board and70 school teachers of CBSE board.

• In the present study, the researcher has prepared two tools for secondary school teachers. Tool I was prepared to study the secondary school teachers’ views on school effectiveness and Tool II was prepared to study the managerial function of planning performed by the secondary school principals.

The statistical techniques that were used by the researcher for Descriptive analysis of data were as follows

 1) Measures of central tendencies – Mean,

Median and Mode. 2) Measures of variability – the Standard

deviation, Skewness and Kurtosis of the distribution.

The t-test is used to compare the mean scores.

r-test is used to find out the relation between two variables.

The mean, median and mode are in ascending order. The mean, median, mode, skewness and kurtosis are in the accepted level of fluctuations. This suggests that the proximity of the distribution is confirmed to be in near normal shape.

Since mean score of CBSE board school teachers is significantly high than SSC board school teachers, we can say that Planning component of managerial function performed by Principals of CBSE board is better than SSC board school principals.

Since there is significant relationship in views of school teachers in terms of Planning component of managerial function performed by their school principals and school effectiveness, we can say that planning component of managerial function performed by Principals affects the school effectiveness moderately.

• The managerial function of Planning performed by Principals of CBSE board is better than SSC board school principals.

• The School Effectiveness of CBSE board is better than SSC board schools.

• There is significant relationship in views of school teachers in terms of Planning component of managerial function performed by their school principals and School Effectiveness; we can say that Planning component of managerial function performed by Principals moderately affects the school effectiveness.

 

Present study clearly suggests that there is positive and significant relationship between managerial function of Planning performed by school principals and School Effectiveness . From these observations, it can be concluded that school principals play a significant role .

Principals of SSC board schools need to reflect on their managerial function of Planning and have to use participatory method so that overall functioning of school have significant impact on the school effectiveness.

As this research suggests that there is significant relationship between managerial function of planning performed by school principals on school effectiveness, the principals of both the boards need to improve their managerial roles so that such improved actions can reflect on the overall effectiveness of schools endeavors.
