What Every Student Needs to Know I am already quite thankful I made the step to attend your program :) It's beat my wildest dreams already and I'm barely in. " Heather Braum

Information and Communication BroncoWeb http://broncoweb.boisestate.edu/ BroncoWeb is Boise State University's web-based system for all students, faculty, and staff. It is the main website to access important information, register for classes, send and receive your Bronco email, and a lot more. Students can find links to important help documents for academics and finances. Visit http://broncoweb.boisestate.edu/documentation/ for a complete list.

Create a password -https://bweb.boisestate.edu > click "create a password -Enter your BroncoWeb Username, Student ID/Employee ID, Date of Birth, and Social Security Number -Choose a new password, and enter it in the New Password and Confirm New Password boxes. -Select Set My Password.

Bronco Mail is the student email system, which is used by the administration and faculty to send students important information throughout the year. If you have been given Bronco Mail access, your Bronco Mail address is indicated above as well. You will use the same Username and password for both.

Every student is given a Boise State email address that is usually your first and las [email protected] All official university correspondence about schedules, courses, fees, deadlines, graduation, and financial aid is sent to your bronco mail account-check it frequently.

Page 12: EDTECH Student Handbook

How to forward BSU email to your personal email account -Before configuring your email client for BroncoMail, you need to ensure your Gmail account is configured to enable IMAP and POP access.

In Gmail, go to Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP to ensure your account is enabled for POP and IMAP access. Be sure to use your full email address ([email protected]) when prompted for a username. For more information, please visit: http://helpdesk.boisestate.edu/email/broncomail/popimap.shtml

Upon graduation, BSU email will no longer be available -please contact the registrar's office to update your personal email address for correspondence as an alumni.

How To Register for Courses -http://broncoweb.boisestate.edu/files/2010/07/Academics-%E2%80%93-Registerfor-Classes.pdf

We recommend taking only two classes per semester, unless you are not currently working and have a lot of time to devote to studying. We never recommend over two classes per summer semesters. What's full-time? Full-time with the EdTech Department and for FAFSA is two classes per semester. How many hours of study per week per course? In the fall and spring, classes take from 9-12 hours of study per week. In the summer, classes can take from 20-24 hours per week. Registering for multiple classes and then dropping one or more is not recommended. This can negatively impact our Department's ability to plan how many sections of courses we need to open.

Wait-Listing a Class -If a class is full and a wait-list is available, the class status displays as a yellow triangle and the class details display the wait-list capacity. If a class is full and there is no wait-list, the class status displays as a blue box and the class details display the wait-list capacity as zero. An email notification will be sent to your BroncoMail account if you are enrolled in a class from a wait-list. If you have wait-listed yourself in other sections, please make sure to remove yourself from those wait-lists as soon as possible. From your student center click on the enroll link

Page 13: EDTECH Student Handbook

then select the drop tab. Choose the appropriate term, select the class you want to remove, and click the Drop Selected Classes button. Verify that the class was removed by printing your class schedule.

Page 14: EDTECH Student Handbook

You can waitlist multiple sections of the same course. You will be allowed to wait-list up to 12 credits per semester and will be added to the first available open section. Click on the course section number to look at the course details. The wait-list total is listed under the Class Availability section. Your wait-list position displays on your class schedule. If you receive a permission number from your instructor to override a closed class, you must drop from the wait-list and register with the permission number. Wait-listing will be turned off on the last day a student can add a class without instructor permission by session. For the regular session this is the fifth day of classes. See the Academic Calendar Deadlines by Session for all other sessions. More information: http://registrar.boisestate.edu/studentfaqs.shtml

Adding a class

Before the semester begins, you may add classes to your schedule on Bronco Web, if there is space available in the class. If a class is full, you can request to be placed on a wait list to enroll in the class if a seat becomes available. You may continue to add classes after the first day of classroom instruction, up until the deadline appropriate to the session. However, after the fifth day of the semester’s regular session you must obtain the instructor’s approval to add the class. Instructors may refuse to grant permission if the class is full. They may also refuse permission if your late entry would prevent you from benefiting fully from the class or would prevent other students in the class from doing so. For help contact the Help Desk at 208 426-4980

Dropping a Course http://broncoweb.boisestate.edu/files/2010/07/Academics-%E2%80%93-Drop-aCourse.pdf

You may drop classes on Bronco Web from your schedule. Please check the academic calendar on the Registrars website for the deadline to drop classes.http://registrar.boisestate.edu/academic-calendar.shtml If you drop a class after the 10th day, your transcript will show a grade of W (for withdrawal) for that class. Grades of W will not be used in GPA calculation. Workshops, short courses, five-week, and eight-week block courses have different deadline dates.

Page 15: EDTECH Student Handbook

Drop Fee - as a student you are expected to finalize your class schedule at the beginning of each term. Dropping unwanted courses as the semester begins allows other students the opportunity to add the courses they need. For more information, contact the BroncoWeb Help Desk at (208) 426-4980. Can you take a semester off? -Yes, you can. You have up to 7 years to complete a masters and up to 3 years to complete a certificate. Please notify your academic adviser if you plan to take a semester off.

Dropping a Course after the Deadline -If you need to drop a class in a current semester after the last drop deadline for the session, but before the session ends, you must submit an appeal by using a form that is sent to the dean (or associate dean) of the College of Education. You can find this form online at: http://registrar.boisestate.edu/forms/dropafterdeadline.pdf Read the instructions, fill out the form, submit a written letter, and provide documentation of extenuating circumstances that would justify an exemption to the drop deadline policy. If the dean or associate dean signs the form, then you can proceed to request approval and signature from the instructor. The instructor may still deny the appeal. Once you receive all required signatures, you must submit the form to the Registrar’s Office, Administration Building Room 110, for processing.

Faculty-Initiated Withdrawals -You should not expect that an instructor will withdraw you for nonattendance. The primary responsibility for course withdrawal rests with you. An instructor has the option of withdrawing you from a course if any of the following conditions are present:

! You fail to participate in a class.

! You have not satisfied the entrance requirements for the class.

Complete Withdrawal from Boise State University -If you wish to leave the University in GOOD STANDING (drop all courses) you must drop all your classes on BroncoWeb. See the academic calendar on the Registrar’s website for information on specific deadlines If you do not cancel your registration or completely withdraw

Page 16: EDTECH Student Handbook

by the appropriate deadline for the session, you will be awarded a final grade of F. Complete withdrawal after the published deadline will only be granted by special appeal and because of extraordinary circumstances.

Page 17: EDTECH Student Handbook

Call (208) 426-4249 for more information.

Financial Aid and Withdrawal -If you withdraw from the University, you need to be aware of a federal law impacting your financial aid eligibility. Complete withdrawals will result in a financial obligation by you to return the unearned portion of any federal aid disbursed. You will have earned aid if you withdraw prior to completing 60 percent of the semester. You will have to repay Boise State for the unearned aid which had applied toward tuition and fee charges. A repayment may also be required for unearned aid disbursed directly to you. If you are considering withdrawing from Boise State, we strongly recommend that you review the information on the web at http://financialaid.boisestate.edu/. After reviewing that information, if you still have questions, contact the Financial Aid Office. Call (208) 426-1664 for more information

Also, I'm impressed with the sense of community in the EDTECH program. I love receiving e-mails, being able to check what's going on via Twitter and to read my classmates' blogs. Definitely a difference from my undergrad where I sometimes felt like I didn't know anyone!" Amber Lavoie

Failure to Meet Expected Date of Graduation The Graduate College and the Registrar's Office have initiated a policy and related procedures to address a graduate student's failure to meet the expected date of graduation.

Policy: The graduation date for graduate students will be allowed to change twice. If the student does not complete the degree requirements after the second date change, the Registrar's Office will place the student´s graduation file on Inactive Status.

Procedure for Moving of Graduation Date: The Registrar´s Office will notify the student, via BroncoMail, with an e-mail copy to the adviser, the program coordinator, and the Graduate College, that the expected date of graduation has been moved to the next available graduation date because the degree requirements were not completed. The notification will also state that the student will be allowed one additional move and if the student does not meet all deadlines to graduate by the new date, his/her graduation file will be placed on Inactive Status.

Procedure for Inactive Status: If a student's graduation file is placed on Inactive Status, the Registrar's Office will notify the student via BroncoMail, with an e-mail copy to the adviser, the program coordinator, and the Graduate College. The e-mail will state that in order to become eligible for a new graduation date, the following steps are necessary:

The student must contact his/her adviser and program coordinator and request that they review the student's program, help the student design a schedule for completion, and choose a realistic graduation date. The program coordinator then notifies the Registrar's Office in writing of the new expected date of graduation.

Page 36: EDTECH Student Handbook

The notification from the adviser or program coordinator with the new graduation date must arrive at the Registrar's Office prior to the deadline to apply for graduation (this deadline is published in the university Graduate Catalog). However, a new application is not required, nor is an additional diploma fee.

Page 37: EDTECH Student Handbook

The e-mail from the Registrar's Office to the student will also state that although the graduation file is on Inactive Status, the student will still be eligible to register and attend classes unless there is a hold on registration related to some other matter.
