introducing tri-rail’s employer discount program
Since Tri-Rail’s inception in 1989, commuter rail has been a valuable
component of South Florida’s transportation network. Serving thousands
of riders as part of the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority
(SFRTA), Tri-Rail has developed the Employer Discount Program (EDP) to
meet the needs of employees of area businesses.
More than half of Tri-Rail’s riders are regular business travelers; some of whom
may be your present and future employees. With 18 stations conveniently located
throughout Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties, Tri-Rail is a valuable
transportation alternative for daily commuters. Easy connections and stress-free
travel make Tri-Rail even more appealing to South Florida’s growing workforce.
it pays to ride tri-rail
With absolutely no cost and just a minimum amount of paperwork, your company,
no matter how large or small, can join hundreds of other businesses enrolled in Tri-Rail’s
Employer Discount Program.
As a participating business, you can offer your workers a valuable employee transit
benefit. Your employees will be eligible to receive a 25% discount on Monthly and 12-Trip
passes. In addition, with new federal tax incentives, your company can subsidize employee
transportation costs, or offer workers pre-tax benefits with payroll deductions.
Additionally, your company is serving
the community by helping to reduce the
number of vehicles on our congested
highways and keep carbon
emissions low.
“We enjoy providing our
employees with the benefit
of riding Tri-Rail for less.
It is no extra work for us
and our employees truly
appreciate it.”

With federal tax benefits, it really does pay to ride transit! Employers who offer a
transit commuter benefit program can take advantage of federal tax benefits as
mandated by the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st century (TEA-21).
the beneFits
The transit commuter, pre-tax benefit allows employers to give their employees
up to $230 per month to cover transit commuting costs as a tax-free benefit.
Alternatively, employers can allow employees to pay for the commuter benefit
with payroll deductions.
An employer can pay for the cost of the transit commuter, pre-tax benefit for their
employees. The employer’s cost of providing transit benefits can be deducted as a
normal business expense.
Employers can share the cost of commuting by paying for part of the transit
commuter, pre-tax benefit and employees can pay for the remainder with pre-tax
dollars.
No matter who pays, both the employer and employee will save money by
participating. For more information about the transit commuter, pre-tax benefit
program, please contact your EDP Coordinator at 954-788-7938 or via e-mail at
