1 he most recent com- mitment and prom- ise is to create de- velopment projects, both in Paphos and Nicosia. The President of the Republic announced the implementation of projects totaling 173.9 million euro for the city and dis- trict of Nicosia, for completion by the end of the year or early 2016. He also announced new projects 60 million in Paphos. These projects were characterized as “Projects that give breath”, since they will employ people and will pro- vide economic development for the country. But in reality, is this all about or it is just commitments in the shadow of the upcoming parliamentary elections in May 2016? There were numerous commitments of Nicos Anastassiades’ government during the pre-election period during the gov- ernance of two years. He was committed not to accept a bail-in, to reduce unem- ployment, to support the vu l n e r a b l e society groups, to guarantee the min- imum income, to safeguard wages and pensions and to protect the pri- mary residence and the public wealth. No commitment was materialized. In- stead, during those two years, unem- ployment rose to 16%, salaries and pen- sions were reduced, the first residence and the small professional settler are on disposal, public services were privat- ized and the minimum income policy kept out the 60% of people. Although the government announced these projects, it is clear that the gov- ernment policy is not profitable for the society and Cyprus, but it is dangerous since it dismantled the social state that the government of Demetris Christofias’ created. We hope that these promises will not end up like the rest of the com- municative “tricks” of the government in the shadow of the parliamentary elec- tions of May 2016. T

he most recent com-mitment and prom-ise is to create de-velopment projects, both in Paphos and Nicosia. The

President of the Republic announced the implementation of projects totaling 173.9 million euro for the city and dis-trict of Nicosia, for completion by the end of the year or early 2016. He also announced new projects € 60 million in Paphos. These projects were characterized as “Projects that give breath”, since they will employ people and will pro-vide economic development for the country. But in reality, is this all about or it is just commitments in the shadow of the upcoming parliamentary elections in May 2016?

There were numerous commitments of Nicos Anastassiades’ government during the pre-election period during the gov-ernance of two years. He was committed not to accept a bail-in, to reduce unem-ployment, to support the vu l n e r a b l e

society groups, to guarantee the min-imum income, to safeguard wages and pensions and to protect the pri-mary residence and the public wealth.

No commitment was materialized. In-stead, during those two years, unem-ployment rose to 16%, salaries and pen-sions were reduced, the first residence and the small professional settler are on disposal, public services were privat-ized and the minimum income policy kept out the 60% of people.

Although the government announced these projects, it is clear that the gov-ernment policy is not profitable for the society and Cyprus, but it is dangerous since it dismantled the social state that the government of Demetris Christofias’ created. We hope that these promises will not end up like the rest of the com-municative “tricks” of the government in the shadow of the parliamentary elec-tions of May 2016.

years since the double crime, we urge the democratic peo-ple along with the youth to join the struggle for a reuni-

fied Cyprus, against the partition and away from foreign interventions. Let’s struggle together for a free and demilita-rized Cyprus, for peace, independence and democracy.

The election of the Turkish Cypriot lead-er Akinci, gave the opportunity for the resumption of negotiations within the framework of UN resolutions for a bizon-al, bicommunal federation. Being advo-cate of the solution and the reunification of the island, we responsibly support the effort for a solution based on the framework of ‘77.

Now it’s the time to show our desire for a solution in these difficult social and economic conditions. Now it’s the time to show that we have not forgotten, nor settled with the status quo which keeps us separated.

On the 15th of July, it is our duty to be present and along with the biggest youth organization to send a strong message to those who favor the partition that we have not forgotten and that we struggle together with the people who favor the solution to return back to our homeland.

It’s the time to take the essential step for a reunited and free Cyprus.

T he struggle against addictive substances was always top priority EDON since it this scourge appeared in our country. A scourge that gets in-creasingly alarming proportions and has rapidly spread in recent years. Particularly in the National

Guard, we feel that the problem gets increasingly alarming dimensions.

Nowadays, the struggle of the people and the youth against addictive substances is becoming a priority. It is a fight that goes through the struggle against the system, the class ex-ploitation and the inequality: those factors which cultivate the ground for the drug addiction. Through the initiatives that we develop, we reveal the real causes of this social problem. We call for social protection measures and for making the cre-ative conditions for young people.

A basic principle of EDON is the need for establishment of a social front against the scourge of drugs. The establishment of a front that will aim to involve the whole of society and its institutions towards adopting preventive measures in the framework of an integrated strategy.

We believe that the measures to be taken should be aimed at: Strengthening the prevention pro-grams, the early intervention, the treatment and re-habilitation.

In this context we have decided, to implement various visits and meetings. So far, we had a meet-ing with the Minister of Defense, the Minister of Justice and Public Order and the President of the Anti-Drugs Council. We are also expecting for ad-ditional meetings to be held with the President of the Republic, the Minister of Education and Minister of Health, the Youth Organization and other social organizations.

Ι n a few days, the military rank for 2015 be-gins. EDON will continue to support the soldiers and wish them to carry out their

mission under the conditions of occupation inCyprus.

EDON as the most pioneering and active part of the youth, could not be away of that part of the youth which serves the army forces in an occupied island, as a result of the double crime of 1974 with the treacherous coup d’état and Turkish invasion which followed.

Besides, EDON lost many precious members who served in the army in 1974, sacrificing their lives during the coup d’état and Turkish invasion.

At a recent meeting of the CC of EDON with Defense Minister, EDON handed proposals for improving the military life of soldiers such as:

• The reduction of military service.• The creative use of time in the National Guard.• Proposals to address the scourge of drugs in the militant youth.

EDON will continue to fight and resist against those who try to tie Cyprus in the imperialist slaughter of NATO or in other branches like the Partnership for Peace (PfP) and use our soldiers as pawns in the new imperialist crimes in different cor-ners of the planet.

EDON will continue to support the soldiers and wish them to carry out their mission under the conditions of occupation in Cyprus.
