Thank you for all your positive comments and the constructive feedback on our inaugural issue. This is just the beginning for our publication, but we hope that it is the start of a fun and interesting journey and of an A2MM tradition that will connect and enrich our community for a long time to come. We received several suggestions for improvement especially on the Marathi fonts and layouts, and we have tried to incorporate those suggestions in this issue. One of the suggestions was also to avoid really long articles and messages, and we’ll get there eventu- ally, but for this issue I will start by keeping the editorial brief. We have several returning authors and columns this time, as well as some new authors and articles. The youth team has had to jug- gle final exams, several practices and such but hope you like what they have put together in a very short time. As with the first issue, many thanks to the team members who have provided invaluable help with the myriad tasks that went into producing this newsletter – proofs, illustrations, photos, design and more. Thanks again for reading and do keep your contributions and feed- back coming. It is our intent to make the next issue –targeted for September-October release -- a Diwali Special, so we do need a lot of material as well as all ideas, suggestions, and help that we can get for making it happen.

One of the suggestions was also to avoid really long articles and messages, and we’ll get there eventu-ally, but for this issue I will start by keeping the editorial brief.

We have several returning authors and columns this time, as well as some new authors and articles. The youth team has had to jug-gle final exams, several practices and such but hope you like what they have put together in a very short time. As with the first issue, many thanks to the team members who have provided invaluable help with the myriad tasks that went into producing this newsletter – proofs, illustrations, photos, design and more.

Thanks again for reading and do keep your contributions and feed-back coming. It is our intent to make the next issue –targeted for September-October release -- a Diwali Special, so we do need a lot of material as well as all ideas, suggestions, and help that we can get for making it happen.

Here’s wishing our readers a very Happy July 4th (belated), August 15th, and yes, गणपती बापपा मोरया!

What is A2MM?Ann Arbor Marathi Mandal (A2MM) is a non profit community organization serving Michigan since April 2006. A2MM is organized exclusively for cultural, educational and charitable purposes, including promoting festivals, musical performances and dramas related to culture, traditions and language of “Maharashtra”, a western state of India. We organize cultural, social, musical, and theatrical events related to traditional Maharashtrian culture including Makar Sankrant, Gudhi Padwa, Maharashtra Day, Ganesh Chaturthi, Kojagiri and Diwali. We also have other activities like Sahal (Picnic), Marathi Natak, Karaoke club & Cinema, to add to the fun. Our aim is to promote, preserve, cherish and perpetuate the socio-cultural values of Maharashtrian culture as well as our history and traditions amongst all Maharashtrians in USA. In doing so we hope to pass the Marathi traditions to the next generation. Hence we also emphasize participation by younger generation in each of our programs.

Maharashtra: A Brief Historyby Prof. Madhav Deshpande

Maharashtra has a deep historic and social background. There are many provinces in India, but only the name of Maharashtra contains the word rashtra, meaning a nation. That reflects a nationalist mindset of the people of Maharashtra. Maharashtra has historically provided direction to India. In pre-modern times also, Maharashtra was a vibrant and prosperous culture. We see the ancient art in the caves of Ajantha, Ellora and Elephanta. There were brave warriors and great devotional saints in Maharashtra.

The stream of devotional poetry was taken to every home in Maharashtra by saints like Dnyaneshwar, Namdev, Eknath, and Savata Mali. Namdev carried the tradition of devotion to north India. Shivaji Maharaj planted the seed of independence in Maha-rashtra, and forced the Moghuls of Delhi to recognize the power of the Marathas. The horses of the Peshwas reached the fort of Attock on the banks of the upper Indus river. The war of independence of 1857 was also led by Maratha warriors. In Maharashtra, Lokamanya Tilak declared that independence was his birth-right. Mahatma Gandhi found a political Guru in Gopal Krishna Gokhale. Leaders like Agarkar, Jotiba and Savitri Bai Phule, and Shahu Maharaj led movements for social reform, equality, and education for all.

Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar led a remarkable revolution for the upliftment of the Dalits in Maharashtra and India. He made them aware of their god-given rights for equality and he organized them in order to give a voice to them in Indian politics.

After independence of India in 1947, Maharashtra and Gujarat were joined in a common Bombay state, and the Marathi people got together to lead a struggle for an independent state for Maharashtra. 105 people lost their lives in demonstrations supporting this inde-pendent state for Maharashtra. However, finally on May 1, 1960, the modern state of Maharashtra came into existence.

It has been 49 years since the birth of the modern state of Maharashtra. The first chief minister of this state of Maharashtra, Yashwant Rao Chavhan laid the foundation of a modern Maharashtra. Since then Maharashtra has progressed on all fronts, including arts, litera-ture, music, and sports, and has emerged as a leading progressive modern state in India.

What Is Identity Theft?

Unlike your fingerprints, which are unique to you and cannot be given to someone else for their use, your personal data especially your Social Security number, your bank account or credit card number, your telephone calling card num-ber, and other valuable identifying data can be used if they fall into the wrong hands, to personally profit the abuser at your expense.

In the United States your Social Security Number (called Social Insurance Number or SIN in Canada) is used for your personal and financial identity. Many people have reported that unauthorized persons have taken funds out of their bank or financial accounts, or, in the worst cases, taken over their identities al-together, running up vast debts and commit-ting crimes while using the victims’ names in the U.S. and Canada. In many cases, a victim’s losses may include not only out-of-pocket financial losses, but substantial ad-ditional financial costs associated with trying to restore financial reputation in the community and correcting er-roneous information for which the criminal is responsible.

Identity theft is a crime.

Why are identities stolen or why would someone steal my identity and how can it affect me?

One of the main reasons (or the motive) for identity theft is finan-cial gain. Identity information in the U.S. and Canada mainly helps track your financial standing in a credit based market. A service provider (Bank, Money Lenders, Utilities, Educational organiza-tions, etc.) use this information to assess financial risk in doing business with you as a business owner, consumer, student, etc. Credit check is the first step for most of the service providers and things move smoothly once fair credit rating is validated.

It takes years to build a good credit rating, which is the main moti-vation for criminals to steal such identities for fraudulent activities. There are several ways one could get affected once victimized by identity theft. Some of the major issues include - damaged credit history, expensive patch-up in the form of funds to re-establish credit standing and loss of financial reputation.

What should I do to avoid becoming a victim of identity theft?

Some basic measures can be adopted to prevent these crimes.

Be stingy about giving out your personal information to others unless you have a reason to trust them. Adopt a “need to know” approach. For example: If you call your credit card company it makes sense for them to ask you for your mother’s maiden name for account verification. But someone from your bank calling you and asking for that information may be an attempt to acquire your personal information for their personal benefit. Your bank already has your personal information on file and uses it to validate your

identity when you call them.

It is perfectly fine and legal for you to ask for ad-ditional explanation and validation if asked for your personal information.

Check your financial information regularly; this includes your bank/credit card statements and any other statements that indicate your finan-cial position like loan statements, leasing state-ments etc.

Shred/ destroy any media before throwing it into garbage. This includes credit card offer mail-ers, expired cards that may have your personal information, any CD’s that may contain your personal information, any non functional hard drives from your old computer that crashed, etc.

The federal law enables you to receive one free credit report per year from each of the three credit bureaus - Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. Use this to get a credit report once every year. All it takes is a phone call to (877) 322-8228 to request your credit report or go to https://www.annualcreditreport.com and follow the instructions. It is recommended that you request the reports by phone rather than accessing them online.

If you suspect any fraudulent activity on your credit report

Immediately inform the fraud department of the credit bureaus mentioned above. Once you inform one of the companies of pos-

a victim’s losses may include not only out-of-pocket finan-cial losses, but sub-stantial additional financial costs associ-ated with trying to re-store financial reputa-tion in the community and correcting erro-neous information for which the criminal is responsible .

sible fraud, they will inform the other two for you. The credit bureaus will each mail you the notice of your rights as an identity theft victim. Once you receive the necessary paperwork contact the bureaus for two things - a credit report and an extension of the alert to seven years. Plac-ing the fraud alert means that your file will be flagged and creditors are required

to call you before extending credit. Consider using a cell phone number. You can cancel the fraud alert at any time.

If debt collectors try to get you to pay the fraudulent charges on your accounts, get the contact details of the person calling and the name of the collection company. Tell them that you are an identity theft victim and are not responsible for the debt. Ask if they need you to complete an affidavit or if you can use the affidavit from FTC. Ask from them in writing that you do not owe them any debt and the account is closed.

These are some of the basic actions, more details can be found at: http://www.privacyrights.org/identity.htm

In summary, although there is no reason to get paranoid about iden-tity theft, it is important to be aware of it. The above basic precau-tions, performing regular checks, knowing the signs of possible fraud, and understanding your rights and next steps in case of breach will go a long way in protecting your identity.

Garma-Garam Tondliby Gopal Kamat

Tindora is an Indian word for gherkins. These are cucumber-shaped tiny (1-1.5 inch long) green veggies that can taste really delicious if cooked well. Garma-Garam (i.e. piping hot) Tondli is a great entree that can be prepared in no time.

Method:

Cut tindora across length into thin, long pieces. Take a flat pan/wok, spray non-stick cooking spray, and start frying tindora on a high flame. Add salt to it while you’re frying it. Fry it continuously as it turns from green, to light brown (and some pieces can even blacken a little bit). Then take the pan off the flame. Next, take another vessel, spray non-stick cooking spray, and add

asafoetida, curry leaves, chilli peppers, udad dal, cumin and cashews. Let this seasoning turn brownish, then add the tindora and stir well on medium flame. Add salt to taste and cook until ready.

Serves 4 people.

Dahi-e-Khumb by Gopal Kamat

Dahi means Yogurt. Khumb means mushrooms. This is an entree made with mushrooms in a yogurt-based gravy. It’s low/zero fat and requires no oil for cooking.

Method:

Cut up the mushrooms into small pieces (slices if you will), and start frying them in a pan using non-stick cooking spray (PAM or other similar). (Note: The mush-rooms need to be dry.) The mushrooms will start drainin moisture and will eventually start turning brown. As that happens, add the garlic paste and fry a few more mins. Then add the rice flour and continue frying. Add yogurt and turmeric, mix it up well and continue stirring until yogurt cooks well. Then add 1-2 cups of water and garam masala, and salt to taste. Make sure all

ingredients have mixed well and cook until done. Garnish with spring onion greens, if desired.

(Note: for variation, feel free to add tofu or paneer to the dish in accompaniment to the mushrooms. Also can add deghi mirch powder to give it a reddish/orange color.)

Serves 4-6 people.

Ingredients:

Tindora/Gherkins – 1.5-2 lbs 2 tsp mustard seeds 1 tsp cumin 2-3 tbsp black gram (Udad) daal 6-7 dried red chilli peppers 3-4 tbsp lightly salted cashews 10-12 curry leaves Salt Asafoetida

Ingredients:

16oz Mushrooms (the regular kind) 1 tbsp garlic paste 1 tbsp rice flour 2 cups fat-free yogurt a pinch of turmeric 1 tsp garam masala salt to taste water non-stick cooking spray (PAM or others) 10 green chilli peppers cut into fine pieces spring onion greens for garnishing

Right On Courseby Sheila Pursglove

Chelsea resident Linda Meloche’s career path sounds like something cut out for Gol-dilocks.

First came a great sales job with a car and perks but Meloche found the job mindless. Then came a meaningful job with a non-profit charity, but with a paltry salary.

Third time lucky.

“I was looking for a happy medium,” she says.“I wanted to find a career that left me feeling like I was doing some good in the world, but was also paid fairly for it. I need-ed some direction.”

Career karma came when this MSU grad heard about the Dale Carnegie program.

“It seemed a perfect match so I went through the 13 week course, became a Graduate Assistant, and eventually an In-structor,” Meloche says.“I’ve been full time – teaching and selling – with Dale Carnegie for 23 years.

“It’s an incredibly good job and a really a life-changing program.”

Since its inception in 1912 the Dale Carn-egie program has helped people to face fears, whether speaking in front of groups, dealing with people more effectively, being an outstanding leader, dealing with stress, or just being more confident in every as-pect of their life.

“I’ve never seen anything work like this course does,” Meloche says.

“One of the most important things the course did for me was to help me have a keener appreciation of the people around me and to realize that every day I have a choice in terms of my attitude.I hardly ever have bad days anymore - no kidding.”

About eight years ago, Meloche had elabo-rate surgery to remove a benign tumor from a bone in her forehead.

“That’s kind of scary stuff and if I hadn’t been a graduate of the Dale Carnegie Course, I know I would have operated only on fear and been kind of freaked out by it all,” Meloche says. “Instead, it ended up being a pretty amazing experience. My sur-geon from U of M was world renowned for rebuilding faces that had been devastated by cancer, and he was the nicest guy, and he was extremely good looking.Who could ask for more in a surgeon?”

Her anesthesiologist was one of her for-mer Dale Carnegie students. “So the last person I saw going under was someone I knew, who told me everything was going to be all right,” she says.“My family and friends were great - I got tons of wonder-ful cards and gifts and dinners and it made me realize all over again that I am the lucki-est person I know.

“I just look at life in a different way as a re-sult of being involved in Dale Carnegie.”

Meloche has trained over 2,500 people, working with companies in Southeastern Michigan in the development of leadership, quality service, communications, human relations, coaching, team-building, goal setting and management skills.

Meloche, who teaches classes in Washt-enaw and Jackson counties, teaches a Teen/Adult class in Ann Arbor.

“I just do this once a year in the summer and this year it’s extra cool because my oldest daughter Emily is a Graduate Assis-tant in the class and my youngest daughter Carly is a student.

“It’s very rewarding to share this part of my life with them and to see them shine in unique and wonderful ways in the class”.

Each week, class members practice speak-ing in front of the group on various topics, such “A Lesson Learned” or “A Childhood Incident.

“I’m able to hear amazing stories, even ones I’ve never heard from my two daugh-ters,” Meloche says.

Ann Carey-Doran, a sales and adminis-trative assistant at Vector CANtech in Ann Arbor, describes herself as a “blushing

shy 50-year-old” who procrastinated for two years before taking the Dale Carn-egie Training at the recommendation of her boss.

“Linda and the graduate assistants put you at ease immediately -- but don’t let their friendliness and warmth fool you.Linda will push you to take the next step even if it is outside of your comfort zone -- especially if it’s out of your comfort zone,” Carey-Doran says..

“It took me a while to sign up for this course and even though I still get butterflies in my stomach, I definitely feel I’m making prog-ress and I’ve learned a great deal about myself and how I handle my work and per-sonal relationships.”

Brent Bucknam says he gained a lot of knowledge about public speaking, social situations, and much more. “I’d recom-mend this class to anyone, even if they think they are already comfortable with speaking in front of large groups,” he says.

As a result of the class, Stacy Ebron found herself appreciating her job more, as well as family and friends.

“The course helped me increase my self-esteem by recognizing the unique contri-butions I make to others in my personal

and professional life,” she says.“It also reminded me that I cannot change others but I can change myself and my approach to dealing with difficult people. My husband noticed the change in my outlook and how much better I was manag-ing the stress of my job after taking the class.

“Watching Linda in action is thrilling. She is so good on her feet that she inspires you to want to find your calling in life.Watching her work is watching someone who has totally found her purpose and is living it daily.”

Ebron, who has since become a graduate assistant, says she feels more pas-sionate, enthusiastic, and hopeful when she participates in Dale Carnegie.

“The principles are common sense ways to approach any obstacle you will face in life,” Ebron says.“Sometimes you just need help to remember to focus on what really matters most in life.

“The class members are also a great part of the equation.People are so open about the challenges they face and really teach you how to apply the principles through their stories.”

Ellen Gerber graduated from Meloche’s Dale Carnegie class in January 1995 and has been a Graduate Assistant since then. “Living the Dale Carnegie course for13 years has given me an extraordinary ability to navigate my life’s course with relative ease, purpose, and optimism,” she says.

The course enabled Gerber to return to school at the age of 50 for a master’s degree that enriched her research career at Parke-Davis/Pfizer – then helped her cope effectively with the loss of that job and embrace retirement and new op-portunities. It helped her cope with the loss of her father to Alzheimer’s disease and to appreciate the blessings of the special people in her life, she says.

“Linda is the best living example of why the Dale Carnegie philosophy works,” Gerber says. “She is the life force behind the success of the classes. Aside from my personal benefit of her wisdom and guidance, I’ve witnessed her extraordi-nary ability to help class members realize their full potential in all parts of their life.

“I’m energized each week by witnessing Linda’s gentle, positive style that brings out the best in everyone so effectively.”

Teaching Dale Carnegie is similar in some ways to doing her “Around Town with

Linda” show on cable TV in Chelsea, Meloche says. “With both, I’m hearing people’s stories of their life. They share their challenges, their joys and heart-aches, their passion in life.

“They only difference is, in Dale Carnegie, when I am listening to their stories, I’m nodding my head at them quite often.I naturally starting doing this with the TV show until I saw how stupid that looked on camera.I looked like a bobble head.

“I’m still trying to nod my head less on TV but it’s a very hard habit to break!”

Top 5 tips for public speaking

While Dale Carnegie Training covers a lot more than just public speaking, that is what the course is most famous for.

The top five tips for speaking are:

• Never memorize a talk word for word

• Never write out a talk - just make brief notes

• Always begin a talk with a story

• Speak with enthusiasm and passion

• Be yourself

For those of you that were unable to attend our recent educational seminar on June 21st, here is a brief synopsis of some of the key ideas we covered.

Making GiftsAssets that are irrevocably gifted to your family members are beyond the reach of a debtor’s creditors. A gifting program also serves estate planning objectives since the gifted assets (and the income and appreciation thereon) are removed from the debtor’s estate and, therefore, will not be subject to estate taxes at the debtor’s death. To avoid the federal gift tax, a gifting program typically uses the debtor’s $13,000 ($26,000 for married couples) annual per donee gift tax exclusion, and $1 million ($2 million for married couples) lifetime gift tax exemption.

Outright Gifts. Outright irrevocable gifts to family members remove the gifted assets from the reach of the debtor’s creditors. A problem, however, with outright gifts is that the donee is not protected from his/her inabili-ty, disability, creditors and predators, including divorced spouses. Another problem with outright gifts is that the debtor loses total control over the gifted property. Accordingly, consideration should be given to making gifts to irrevocable trusts (see below). Assets transferred to the debtor’s spouse are not subject to gift taxes. However, proper planning is critical to prevent the transferred assets from returning to the debtor-spouse should the donee-spouse die first. Therefore, the donee-spouse should transfer the gifted assets to a revocable living trust designed to provide income and principal for the benefit of the debtor-spouse, but in a manner that protects the trust property from the debtor-spouse’s creditors.

Irrevocable Trusts. By making gifts to an irrevocable trust, the debtor can protect his/her beneficiaries from their creditors, including divorced spouses. The debtor cannot be a beneficiary or trustee of the trust. However, if properly designed, the debtor can retain the right to remove and replace trustees (with someone who is not related or subordinate to the debtor). In addition, the trust can give the trustee the power to use trust income or principal for the benefit of the debtor’s spouse. Thus, the debtor will have “indirect” access to trust property.

Leveraging the gifts with life insurance within an irrevocable trust allows the death proceeds to escape estate taxation at the debtor-insured’s death, and possibly at the death of the beneficiaries as well. The trust can be designed as a “grantor” trust so that the debtor (as opposed to the trust or its beneficiaries) is taxed on the trust’s income. The debtor’s payment of the trust’s income taxes is the equivalent of a tax-free gift to the beneficiaries of the trust. Moreover, the funds used to pay those income taxes are removed from the reach of creditors.

YOUTH KATTA

Fun StuffYou know you’re Indian when...

• You call an older person you’ve never met before “uncle”. • You read law, medicine or engineering at university.• You were thick (i.e. stupid) so you studied accounting or

business instead• You know no one who has studied music.• You avoid public places when with a member of the opposite

sex, especially if there is an acquaintance within a 250 miles radius.

• You get very upset when airlines refuse to accept your lug-gage which is just 80 lbs. Overweight.

• You ask your dad a simple question and he tells you story of how he had to walk miles barefoot just to get to school.

• A horoscope must decide your wedding date.• Your parents compare you to all of their friends’ kids.• Every few months your parents say when they’re moving

back to India.• You know what’s going to happen in every Hindi movie be-

fore it happens.• At expensive restaurants, you order a delicious glass of wa-

ter for your beverage and NEVER order dessert.• Your parents buy you clothes and shoes many sizes too big

so you can “grow into it” and “wear it for years to come.”• You buy corn oil by the gallon.

Answer: A stamp

Best Friends Original story & Illustrations by Richa Javkar

Once upon a time there lived a girl named Eva. She was twelve years old and lived in a small town called Melbury. It was a peaceful town where everyone knew each other. Most of the people worked at a nearby coal mine. Even though it was very hard work they used to be jolly all the time.

But Eva used to be sad all the time because she had a really weird disease. She used to get huge pimples all over her face. Eva had seen the town doctor many times during the year, but the pimples never went away. Because of this she was very quiet and shy and so she did not have any friends.

During the school week, Eva used to be sad in the morning. The reason for this was that when she went to school all the kids made fun of her. But there was one girl named Mylie, who used to hang out with Eva. Unfortunately Mylie had the same disease as Eva. Eva and Mylie got to know each other at the beginning of the school year and slowly became good friends. They used to do homework together and they used to go to the park together on the weekends. When it was close to the end of the school year, Eva and Mylie

were happy because they would finally avoid the kids that made fun of them at school.

One day Eva’s dad came back from work and told Eva and Mylie about a doctor in a nearby big city, who was an expert in curing skin diseases. So Eva’s and Millie’s parents decided to take them to the doctor during the weekend. The doctor from the big city seemed to be very good and he gave them medicines to put on their skin, and also gave pills to take after dinner. Slowly the pimples that Eva and Millie hated started disappearing.

After two months getting treated from the doctor the pimples were completely gone and both Eva and Mylie looked very pretty like they used to when they were little. They were on the top of the world, and very excited at this big change in life. Their parents decided to throw a big party for their doctor, their

neighbors and their school mates. A lot of people attended the party and had fun.

Nobody made fun of Eva and Mylie ever again and they made friends with lot of new kids. Eva and Mylie always stayed BFF’s – Best Friends Forever!

01. Two brothers separated in childhood will always grow up on different sides of the law.

02. The law-breaker, however, will suddenly turn over a new leaf before the end, bash up the villain (who is the *real* bad guy), and be pardoned for all his sins before the last-scene family reunion. (This is possible only if he has a heroine - see rule 3 below).

03. If the number of heroes is not equal to the number of heroines, the excess heroes/heroines will a) die b) join the Red Cross and take off to Switzerland before the end of the movie.

04. If there are 2 heroes in a movie, they will fight each other sav-agely for at least 5 minutes (10 if they are brothers).

05. Any court scene will have the dialogue “Objection milord”. If it is said by the hero, or his lawyer, it will be overruled. Else, it will be sustained.

06. The hero’s sister will usually marry the hero’s best friend (i.e. the second hero).

07. In a chase, the hero will always overtake the villain, even on a bullock-cart, or on foot.

08. When the hero fires at the villain(s), he will never

a) miss

b) run out of bullets. When the villain fires at the hero, he will

always miss (unless the hero is required to die, as in rule 2).

09. Any fight sequence shall take place in the vicinity of a stack of a) pots b) barrels c) glass bottles, which will be smashed to pieces.

10. Any movie involving lost and found brothers will have a song sung by

a) the brothers

b) their blind mother (but of course, she has to be blind in order to regain her sight in the climax)

c) the family dog/cat.

11. Police inspectors (when not played by the hero) come in three categories:

a) Scrupulously honest, probably the hero’s father - killed by the villain before the titles.

b) Honest, but always chasing the anti-hero (as in Rule 1), say-ing “Tum kanoon se bach nahin sakte”, only to pat him in the back in reel 23. Usually, this inspector’s daughter is in love with the anti-hero.

c) The corrupt inspector, (usually the real villain’s sidekick) un-ceremoniously knocked about by the hero(s) in the climax.

Dear Bajirao and Thagubai,

I am in middle school and I like Math. Some of my friends think that I am a nerd. What should I tell them?

Sincerely,

Mathman

Dear Mathman,

Firstly, it is great that you like Math! It is a very good field you should focus on, and its something that will help you in the fu-ture also. Those that call you names for liking math are not re-ally your friends. You should tell them that if they were your real friends they will support you in whatever you like.

Sincerely,

Thagubai

It’s good that you like math, but don’t tell anyone yarr! You need to play cool. Even if they ask, just tell them you don’t like it! That’s how you’ll get all the girls yarr.

Good Luck,

Bajirao

Movie Reviewby Noel Deshpande

UP is a new animated movie, released by Pixar Films, who made other movies such as Toy Story, Monsters Inc. and Finding Nemo. UP is about a cranky old man, a young wilderness explorer, and an incredible journey that will have you laughing and “aww”ing one moment, and waiting in anticipation the next.

Despite being an animated movie, UP is a movie that the entire family can enjoy. A conglomerate of genre, UP has enough variety to keep your inter-est. Comedy, adventure, romance, and suspense all make an appearance. The plot was deep enough to keep your interest, but still light enough for a comedic segue or a plot twist every now and then. The characters were well de-veloped, and helped you connect to the movie more than just watching it.

This is a movie that I would recommend everyone see. Don’t be turned off by it being a Disney movie! UP was definitely an amazing movie. The unlikely heroes, slaphappy humor, and strong morale make it a “worth seeing” for the entire family.
