Rainbow in a Glass Here is a simple experiment which will form different colour solutions in a glass to create a rainbow effect! What you will need: Sugar Water Food colourings (blue, red, green, yellow) Tablespoon 5 glasses/clear plastic cups 7 Easy Steps: 1. Line up all of the glasses. Add 1 tablespoon of sugar to the first glass, 2 tablespoons of sugar to the second glass, 3 tablespoons of sugar to the third glass and 4 table spoons of sugar to the fourth glass. The fifth glass remains empty. 2. Add 3 tablespoons of water to each of the first four glasses and stir. 3. Add 2-3 drops of red food colouring to the first glass, yellow food colouring to the second glass, green food colouring to the third glass, and blue food colouring to the fourth glass. Stir each solution. 4. Now to start making a rainbow! Fill the fifth glass about a quarter full of the blue solution. 5. Next carefully layer the green solution until the glass is about half full. 6. Now layer the yellow solution over the green colouring until the glass is about three-quarters full. 7. Finally, layer the red solution until the glass is full and your rainbow is made! Top Tips: The sugar solutions are mixable, so the colours will eventually mix together if left for too long! If your sugar won’t dissolve just add a few more tablespoons of water. Time: Difficulty:
