anita Dube

Born in 1958, in Lucknow, Anita Dube is trained as an art historian and critic. Her work is determinedly individualized yet provocatively informed by its cultural context. She has developed an aesthetic language that is partial to sculptural fragment as a cultural bearer of personal and social histories. Usually employing a variety of found objects, Dube explores a divergent range of subjects that address a profound concern for loss and regeneration – both autobiographical and societal.

atul Bhalla

Engaged with the shared environmental and ethical concerns of a new generation, Atul Bhalla is a conceptual artist who examines this new generation’s relationship to water and its cultural meaning. Bhalla’s works are universally pertinent. They have an individual as well as collective meaning. They address issues of contemporary needs versus consequent roles of natural, cultural, or built heritage and may be used to decode the contemporary landscape in India by tracing many social constructions and discourses.

Bani abidi

Bani Abidi is a 1971 born Pakistani artist living in Delhi, a reality which increasingly sounds like an oxymoron. She is a loyal supporter of KHOJ, not least because they have done wonders for the Indo-Pak peace process by uniting in holy matrimony, 3 cross border artist couples. She loves what KHOJ does for Delhi and swears to help in all fund raising efforts to ensure that it keeps running and flying.

Gigi Scaria

Born in 1973 in Kothanalloor, Kerala, Gigi Scaria’s work draws the viewer’s attention towards the painful truths of migrancy and displacement. The issue of non-belonging and unsettlement reverberate between the walls on his canvas. Scaria’s solo shows include ‘Absence of an Architect’ at Palette Art Gallery, New Delhi, in 2007; ‘Where are the Amerindians?’ at Inter America Space, Trinidad, in 2005 following his residency at CCA7 there; the Art Inc., New Delhi, in 2001; and Great Art Gallery, New Delhi, in 1998.

appearance

Vivan Sundaram

“Pre-natal experience of modern Indian art. Spent early childhood watching my nana make silver gelatin contact prints in his darkroom/bathroom and gazing at the stars from his professional telescope. So, born as a painter, it was equally logical to end up constructing/deconstructing  photographs”

KHOJ began as a proposition. a space for artists, run by artists. From its modest beginnings 13 years ago as an annual workshop, it has since grown into an organization that works with, and for, creative practitioners across disciplines.

The KHOJ Studios, based in Delhi, is a catalyst for innovative practices, where new imaginations engage to create new art practices; where unconventional synapses are forged between art and disciplines such as science, technology, architecture and fashion. It is a place where art practices are de-mystified, and excitement is created around art.

Today the alumni of KHOJ consists of over 200 Indian and 400 international artists from countries across the globe such as argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Uganda, Kenya, Turkey, Pakistan, Japan, China, Indonesia, Sri lanka, South africa, Zimbabwe, Thailand, Korea, the UK, Europe and america.

KHOJ is a registered society under the Societies registration act, 1860.
