PFA Bake Sale The PFA is holding its second bake sale for the year this Friday. The last sale was a huge success with all of the items selling out very quickly. The sale is being held in the same area between the top and bottom buildings and will commence at 3:30pm. Thank you to all of the families from the Prep, Year 4 and Year 5 classes for supporting this fundraising event with your delicious baked treats. Your support of the PFA fundraising events assists the school in many ways including the provision for resource and program development. The money raised at the last bake sale enabled the school to build the low retaining wall around the sandpit with other projects earmarked when additional funds are raised. These projects include; purchasing internal blinds for designated classrooms and the development of the grounds adjacent to the oak tree after the shed is demolished. Parent/Teacher Conferences By now Im sure that the majority of you have booked times via Compass for the upcoming Parent/Teacher conferences being held next week. If you have as yet done so, then I urge you to book a time to ensure that you have an opportunity to discuss with the teachers your childs/childrens mid-year report and progress throughout Semester 1. Winter Blues Winter may be on the way out, but the last few weeks have been particularly severe in terms of how many staff and students have been affected by cold and flu symptoms. I myself have been struggling with this for a fortnight and havent as yet managed to shake off my infection. With this is mind, I urge you to keep an eye on your child s/ childrens health and consider keeping them away from school even if they are only displaying minor symptoms. This will not only assist your child to recover as quickly as possible, but also assist in avoiding cross -contamination with students and staff. Shed Demolition The old storage shed adjacent to the oak tree is scheduled to be demolished on Sunday, August 27. We are looking for interested volunteers to assist with this project. The plan is to have two crews working together with one crew demolishing the shed while the second crew assists with the removal and storage of the building materials. An online signup link has been created by Tim Roberts-Ferguson and is listed below. If you are interested in assisting but would like to discuss your involvement on the day, then please do not hesitate to contact myself or Ken Darby. http://signup.com/go/YdZjVkL Casino Royale Night As mentioned previously, last year s event was a huge success and a wonderful night of fun and entertainment for all who attended. It proved to be the major fundraiser in 2016 for the PFA. I encourage you once again to support the PFA and attend this wonderful community event and assist with the raising of additional funds for the school Andrew Searle Principal

Working with Children Check - a reminder for all parents:

The WWC Check is a minimum checking standard set by the Working with Children Act 2005 for those who work with children, either on a paid or voluntary basis.

All parent helpers in the school, as well as attending excursions and swimming, are now required to have a current Volunteer Working with Children Check and provide the details to our office. The application process is available online. For more information, or to apply, see our website under the Parent Information tab.

Please contact me if you are interested in assisting in the canteen. Fridays are the busiest day of the week and unfortunately if I don't have help on these days then it will be reflected on what's available on the menu . Thanks Suzy

We are busy making arrangements to welcome our 2018 Prep students. Our Transition program continues in early term 4. During our Transition program our newest students have the opportunity to see the school in action. They will meet our current Prep teachers and get the opportunity to take part in Art, Music, PE, Library, French and Science during the 6 week program. Our year 3 students will also be involved as they prepare to become ‘Big Buddies’ next year and follow up on their great work visiting our local kindergartens throughout terms 2 and 3. Our Transition program concludes on Tuesday December 5 with an information session for 2018 Prep parents in the Hall and the children meeting their new classmates and teacher. Information regarding Transition will be sent out to enrolled families this term. If you have a child to enrol or know of any families in looking for a school in 2018, please let the office know. School tours are held every Wednesday morning at 9:45am for interested families. Please book through the office. If you have any queries about your child starting Prep at Greythorn, please contact me: Mrs Narelle Sime Foundation Leader Prep Transition Co-ordinator Wellbeing Curriculum Leader [email protected]
