• Involves:• Adding• Deleting• Changing•Moving
• Correct errors• Refine the appearance of the document
Objectives• Compare characters & nonprinting characters
• Display nonprinting characters by toggling the Show/Hide button
• Use backspace & delete key
• Compare Undo & Redo commands
• Use Undo, Redo, & Repeat commands
• Select text multiple ways using the mouse & keyboard shortcuts
• Use Drag-and-Drop feature to move text quickly and easily throughout a document
Characters vs. Nonprinting Characters
• Characters• All items visible on screen that can be printed• Examples: Letters, numbers, graphics
• Nonprinting Characters• All items that can be seen on a screen, but NOT
printed• Examples: Hard returns, blank spaces, & tabs• How To: Click on the Show/Hide button
Nonprinting CharactersArrow = Tab Dot = Space
Paragraph Symbol = Hard Return
Delete & Replace Characters
• Backspace Key• Deletes characters to the LEFT of the
insertion point
• Delete Key• Deletes characters to the RIGHT of the
insertion point
Use Undo, Redo, and Repeat• Undo • Reverses the last command• Undo Button (QAT)• Keyboard Shortcut: CTRL + Z• Redo/Repeat • Reverses the action of the undo button• Repeats last action• Redo Button (QAT)• Keyboard Shortcut: CTRL + Y

• Selecting• Identifies blocks of text for editing
• BEWARE!!• New keystrokes will replace selected text

• Use mouse to —DRAG selected text from existing location—then DROP the selected text in a new location

• Cut • Removes text from the document and stores it in the clipboard• Keyboard Shortcut: Ctrl + X
• Copy • Copies the selected items to the clipboard• Keyboard Shortcut: Ctrl + C
• Paste • Places the content of the clipboard at the insertion point• Keyboard Shortcut: Ctrl + V

• Highlight Feature• Used to emphasize important text within a
document

Inserting a File
