t isn’t often that I get to dress up and hang out with fabulous people every night. Well, SA Fashion Week, held in Rosebank, Johannesburg,

presented that opportunity and Annelee (Club’s fashion director) and I jumped at the chance to attend.

This is the second consecutive year that Edgars has been the retail sponsor of SAFW and I believe the partnership is a great fi t. Having a retail giant like Edgars on board is highly benefi cial in helping local designers showcase – and sell – their work to the nation.

As usual, the shows didn’t disappoint, with stand-out collections from SAFW stalwarts like Tiaan Nagel and Clive Rundle. Innovative, conceptual yet ultimately wearable, their designs

I transcend the catwalk and truly inspire.Black Co ee’s collection epitomised, for me, everything that is right about African couture: the show was pure fantasy without resorting to gimmicks. Each piece was fl awless: beautifully crafted, contemporary but exuding an edgy African infl uence that made it feel locally relevant. What a talent.

Then there was Albertus Swanepoel who returned to his fashion design roots with his debut clothing collection after spending the past decade in New York as a milliner to über designer houses like Proenza Schouler and Carolina Herrera. Presented as an installation of posed models, the audience was invited to walk around and view each piece in detail. I’m obsessed with his white tuxedo trousers and perfectly cut white shirt.

If, like me, you love local design then make a point of visiting the Edgars X SAFW capsules (at the Melrose Arch and Sandton City Edgars stores) that showcase designs from numerous SAFW designers at reasonable price points. It’s a great way to up the fashionability of your wardrobe and support local talent.

As always, happy shopping!

CHISELLED CHEEKBONESContouring with highlights and shadows will create the impression of a slimmer face and higher cheekbones.STEP 1 Applied after foundation, opt for a powder that’s two shades darker than your natural skin tone. Use a contour brush to swipe powder across the hollow underneath your cheekbone before blending it in with circular motions.STEP 2 Use a highlighter that’s one shade lighter than your natural skin tone and apply it to the highest point of your cheekbone, blending thoroughly.STEP 3 Finish by adding blusher to the apples of your cheeks (smile, please!).Expert tips: “Blending is essential,” says Givenchy’s David White, while make-up artist Lesley Whitby stresses the importance of choosing a shade of blusher that complements your skin tone: “Pastels and light corals work best for fair skins; bronze and darker pinks for medium skin tones and bright oranges, dark reds and fuchsia pinks for dark-skinned women.”

FULL-ON POWER POUTUse your make-up as a tool to create the illusion of full and balanced lips that command attention.STEP 1 Using dark lip liner, outline your lips and extend the colour to the inside of your lips, leaving the centre bare.STEP 2 Apply a dark lip colour, blending it outwards with a lip brush.STEP 3 Finish with a lip gloss in a contrasting shade, like orange, on the centre of your pout and blend.Expert tips: “The upper lip is often naturally smaller than the lower, so use more colour on the top lip to create the illusion of a fuller lip,” explains make-up artist Linda O’Connell. “It’s a look that leads the eye to the centre of your lips. Plus it’s fun to experiment with di erent colours.”experiment with di erent colours.”

1. TIES AND BOW TIES are my favourite way of experimenting with the masculine trend – I can’t get enough of them. 2. MY WINTER MUST-HAVE is a biker jacket. It’s a wardrobe classic that goes with everything and gives any outfi t an edge. 3. HOME ESSENTIALS that I’ll be buying this season include fl u y towels and new mugs for lots of creamy hot chocolate.4. MY DREAM TRAVEL DESTINATION is the Drakensberg in KwaZulu-Natal. The landscape is so dramatic and I wouldn’t mind seeing some snow. 5. NAIL TRENDS I’M ENJOYING are dark tips

in violet and black, as well as neon pink nails with blue nail art. I’m a fan of statement nails that are out of the ordinary.6. BRAD PITT WAS BORN TO BE A DAD. He seems so natural around his kids and is by far my favourite celebrity father. 7. MY THREE FAVOURITE WINTER ACTIVITIES are enjoying delicious dinners, watching movies and snuggling up in bed with a good magazine.8. THE BEST ADVICE MY DAD EVER GAVE ME was to always respect my elders. It’s something I’ve never forgotten and I’ve tried to instil the same advice in my own daughter.
