Dear Parents/Guardians,
With the school year coming to a close, you many want to think
about ways to help keep your children learning and growing through
the summer months. We encourage students and their parents to
develop a life long love of reading. Take advantage of the opportu-
nities presented by your local public library, many of which are free.
They have wonderful activities designed to motivate students to ex-
plore the world around them and develop their literacy skills at the
same time. Brampton Parks and Recreation also has lots of fun activi-
ties to keep kids from getting bored.
At this time of year we say good-bye and thank-you to staff who are
leaving us. The following staff have made a positive addition to
Edenbrook Hill PS and will be missed. Best wishes to: Ms. Fallis
(TA), Ms. Bailey (TA), Mr. Elston (Teacher), Mr. Martin (Teacher),
Ms. Bhullar (Teacher), Ms. Ming-Morgan (Teacher), Mrs. Crawford
(Teacher), Mrs. Riar (Teacher), Mrs. Patel (Teacher), Ms. Stum
(Teacher), Ms. Hedges (Teacher), Ms. Haugh (Teacher), Ms. Mac-
chione (Teacher), Ms. Sicondolfo (Teacher), Mr. Hackett (Teacher),
Ms. Rehal (Teacher), Ms. Cameron (ECE) and Mrs. Sornalingham
(ECE). Ms. Myers and Ms. Land have completed their assignments and
are working in schools on an occasional basis. Congratulations are
in order for two staff members who are retiring: Mrs. Cotton
(Teacher) and Mrs. White (Custodian).
We are finishing up student class placements for the fall. If you have
anything you would like the school to consider please send a note to
the office explaining the special circumstances that you would like us
to be aware of when building class lists for September.
Please take advantage of the ‘tear off’ on the last page if you would
like to enter a lucky draw for either one free week of YMCA day
camp this summer or Free Week voucher Aug 4 to 7, 2015 at Trillium
Summer Camp.
In closing, I would like to thank my good friend and Vice Principal,
Mrs. McCartney for her hard work and dedication. She has been pro-
moted and will be Principal of Cherry Tree Public School in the fall.
Cherry Tree PS is fortunate to be getting her. I would like to wel-
come our new Vice Principal Mrs. Delill who will join us in August.
Sincerely,
Colleen Lowry
Principal

Our Mission is to ―work together to enhance the quality of
our children’s education, promote an inclusive school environ-
ment and foster positive relationships within the community‖.
How to protect your
family from the sun?
Wear a hat (preferably
with a broad brim), sunglasses
and protective clothing on
sunny days.
Use sunscreen with a SPF
of 15 or greater whenever
you're outdoors.
Encourage your children to play in shady areas if they are
outside for a long period of time.
Remember that sunburn can occur even on a cloudy day, as up
to 80 per cent of UV rays can penetrate light clouds, and 40
per cent of UV rays can bounce back from sand, water or
concrete.

Crossing Guard Appreciation Day on June 9
The Peel board will recognize the contribution of school crossing
guards on Crossing Guard Appreciation Day, June 9. The board en-
courages students, parents and staff to take a moment to thank
the neighbourhood crossing guards who help to ensure a safe jour-
ney to and from school for thousands of students every day.
Jump Rope for Heart
Thank you for your continued support. We were able to surpass
our goal of $5000 raised by EBH students. The students thor-
oughly enjoyed the Jump Event on Friday, May 8. A Grade 1 stu-
dent was heard saying: "This is like an Edenbrook Hill Party!" Con-
gratulations to Mr. W's grade 3 class for raising the most money
and winning the Pizza Party. A JUMPCREDIBLE THANK YOU to
Navin in Mr. W's class and Leigha in Mrs. Noronha's class. They
tied for the most money raised! The school's portion of the pro-
ceeds will be used toward replenishing our Physical Education
equipment.

Summer activities that
boost learning K to Gr. 4
Sorting and stacking –
Teach classification skills
with dinnerware. Ask your
child to match and stack
dishes of similar sizes and
shapes. Also have your
child sort flatware – forks
with forks, spoons with
spoons. This is like recog-
nizing the shapes of let-
ters and numbers. Comic strip writing – Use
comic strips to help with
writing. Cut the segments
of a comic strip apart and
ask your child to arrange
them in order. Then ask
your child to fill in the
words of the characters
(orally or in writing).
Float and sink – Encour-
age hypothesizing
(guessing). Use several
objects – soap, a dry sock,
a bottle of shampoo, a wet
sponge, an empty bottle.
Ask your child which ob-
jects will float when
dropped into water in a
sink or bathtub. Then
drop the objects in the
water, one by one, to see
what happens.
