Eden Court is a brilliant arts centre sitting on the banks of the beautiful River Ness about five minutes walk from the centre of Inverness.
We’ve got two theatres staging a huge variety of drama, dance, music, comedy and talks – that’s what this brochure is all about.
We’ve got two of the comfiest cinemas you could ever hope to visit screening everything from the latest Hollywood releases to the best of world cinema and documentaries. You’ll find our full programme in the ICA magazine every month.
We’ve got two studios where we run over 60 classes a week in drama, dance, singing and film making. Whatever age you are and whatever standard you are at we’ll have a class for you. Details of all the classes are in our Eden Court CREATIVE brochure.
Our cafe, restaurant and bars are open from mid morning till the last show is finished and look forward to welcoming you for coffee, drinks, snacks or dinner whether you are going to a show or not.
Our award winning building has architecture from 1878, 1976 and 2007 and includes six art works as part of the fabric. The Victorian Bishop’s
Palace was home to the Bishop of Inverness from 1878 until 1948 and is one of the most important historical buildings in Inverness – it is open to the public on most days.
Our building is available to rent for anything from small private dinners and meetings to large scale conferences. The variety and history of our rooms and the expertise of our technical staff ensures that your event will be memorable.
On top of all this Eden Court is a registered charity and runs the largest Creative Learning Programme of any UK theatre. This work takes place in our building and around the Highlands, in both schools and communities, and we are increasingly working with some of the most vulnerable members of our society.
You can get more information on all our activities by calling our box office, reading our brochures or looking at our website. If you’d like a weekly email with a reminder of the programme for the week ahead you can sign up for that on our website. If you never want to miss a show you can join the Eden Court Friends and enjoy ticket discounts, a 10% food and soft drinks discount in our bar and restaurant plus much more.

Based on La Nona by Roberto Cossa In a new version by Douglas Maxwell Directed by Graham McLaren
Yer Granny is a riotous new comedy about a
diabolical 100-year-old granny who’s literally eating
her family out of house and home. She’s already
eaten their fish and chip shop into bankruptcy and
now she’s working her way through their kitchen
cupboards, pushing the Russo family to desperate
measures just to survive beyond 1977.
As proud head of the family, Cammy is determined
that The Minerva Fish Bar will rise again and that
family honour will be restored – and all in time for
the Queen’s upcoming Jubilee visit. But before
Cammy’s dream can come true and before Her Maj
can pop in for a chat, a single sausage and a royal
seal of approval, the family members must ask
themselves how far they will go to solve a problem
like Yer Granny.
Adapted from the smash-hit Argentinian comedy
classic La Nona, the cast of Yer Granny features some
of Scotland’s best-loved performers, including Gregor
Fisher in the title role, Maureen Beattie (Casualty),
Louise McCarthy (Mamma Mia!, West End), Brian
Pettifer (The Musketeers), Barbara Rafferty (Rab
C Nesbitt), Paul Riley (Still Game) and Jonathan
Watson (Only An Excuse?).

Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson are drawn
into one of the darkest plots ever to shake
the foundations of England. The grisly serial
killings of prostitutes and vulnerable women
in Whitechapel, dubbed by the popular press
as the work of Jack the Ripper, are the talk
of Victorian London. There are freemasons,
conspiracies and plots at the highest level of
the establishment, but for Holmes, there is a
uniquely personal element to this investigation.

By Mike Maran
Directed by Patrick Sandford
John Muir was born in Dunbar in 1838. When he
was 11 years old he left Scotland behind and moved
with his family to the USA. Years later, he explored
the forests and glaciers of the Pacific North West
and inspired environmental thinking all over the
world. He discovered Yosemite in California and in
1903 President Theodore Roosevelt came to visit
him there. Roosevelt’s time with Muir is the longest
visit ever paid by a serving American President to a
private citizen. After his return, Roosevelt made an
executive order establishing Yosemite as a National
Park. Muir’s glacial explorations also led him to
Alaska where he became friends with Samuel Hall
Young. In this moving new drama, Young, played by
Mike Maran, remembers the life of his friend and his
love for the wilderness.

To celebrate the centenary of Arthur Miller’s birth
Rapture Theatre, in association with The Beacon in
Greenock, present an exciting new production of this
multi-award winning American masterpiece.
Set just after the Second World War, in the backyard
of Joe and Kate Keller, this gripping and passionate
drama ranks as one of the classics of our time.
Joe and Kate try to keep alive the memory of their
son Larry, who disappeared in the war, by planting a
tree in his honour.
But Larry’s disappearance is not the only part of
the family’s past that they can’t put behind them.
Not everybody has forgotten the court case that
put Joe’s partner in jail or the cracked engine
heads Joe’s factory produced, which caused the
deaths of twenty-one pilots.
Following a stormy night, when Larry’s tree is
blown down, Joe and Kate’s lives are threatened
by a series of events that could destroy the very
foundations of their lives
With all the tension of a taut thriller, All My Sons is
a powerful drama that crackles with emotion and
excitement!

Laura Cortese has a vision for her band’s sound: bold and
elegant, schooled in the lyrical rituals of folk music but
backed by grooves that alternately inspire Cajun two-
stepping and rock-n-roll hip swagger. These guys are not
easy to define but a quick listen to their music on Spotify
and a visit to their Facebook page will give you a real
sense of what they’re all about. We’re confident this is a
real hidden gem in our summer programme. If you like
Neko Case, Laura Marling, Camera Obscura, Rose Cousins,
Martha Wainwright, Rufus Wainwright etc then you already
have a lot in common with these guys. If you like ice cream,
vintage clothing and old kitschy records then you’re
practically related.WWW.LAURACORTESE.NET

vocal range and self-penned material that has everyone

One of the most highly rated duos in the country,
Wingin’ It deliver a fiery, energy fuelled array
of acoustic music styles. Weaving effortlessly
between Bluegrass, Gypsy Jazz, Folk and Pop,
their performances are sure to capture the
imagination.
Having won a coveted Danny Kyle Award at Celtic
Connections, the duo have gone on to dazzle audi-
ences ever since. Recently they were commissioned
to write 10 minutes of new music to celebrate the
life of the renowned piper Gordon Duncan, which
was then performed to a sold out Perth Concert
Hall.
In 2013 the duo released their debut album For the
Many. Making full use of the recording studio, as
well as some of Scotlands most in-demand session
musicians, the project soon took on a life of its
own. It has received widespread acclaim from
musicians and critics alike.
Propelling the acoustic guitars and mandolin to
new levels of expression and excitement their
live show is at once an informal, life affirming and
memorable musical experience.

the least playable hands in the game of life.
For me, says Polwart, music is one of the most
powerful ways of making sense of the world. It’s
for celebrating, grieving, sharing, wondering.

Leap, bound, bump, jump and boomerang yourself into bounce: an
interactive dance and acrobatic performance that takes place on a
custom-built inflatable. This full body experience, created for young
audiences is performed by two acrobats with dance and parkour
expertise and features an original score created by Daniel Padden and
J.C. Marshall.
A beautifully crafted journey through the body’s physical capabilities
and a shameless, joyous celebration of bouncing.
Please note: the audience is seated on the bouncy inflatable and not
on a fixed seat. Wheelchair users must therefore be able to transfer.
The creators of The Pokey Hat and Little Ulla are
back with a tempting tale of comedy mayhem set
in a cake shop. Three bakers are busy making a
specially ordered cake. But when a hungry mouse
sneaks in, their plans go out of the window along
with their cakes!
The Edibles is a show full of magical ingredients,
especially created for 3-7 year olds and children
with additional support needs. Mix together original
songs, physical comedy and loveable puppets and
young audiences are in for a tasty treat.

When the infant son of Count di Luna falls ill after
a visit from a gypsy woman, she is burned at the
stake for witchcraft. Her daughter snatches the
Count’s child intending to kill him, but, mad with
grief, throws her own son onto the fire. Years later,
she has brought the Count’s son up as her own
and he and his elder brother, unaware of their
relationship, are rivals for the beautiful Leonora.
Jealousy, revenge, love and hate collide as the
opera crashes towards its unstoppable conclusion.
This restaging from director Martin Lloyd-Evans
conjures up all the superstition and fearfulness
of the Dark Ages. The stark, brooding lines of the
set stand in contrast to the blood and thunder of
Verdi’s music, providing a majestic backdrop for a
cast and chorus of over 50.

Stravinsky Concerto in E-Flat ‘Dumbarton Oaks’ (12’)
Britten Variations on a theme of Frank Bridge (25’)
Prokofiev arr Swensen Five Melodies (13’)
Barber Violin Concerto (25’)
Conductor / Violin Joseph Swensen
The sheer loveliness and passionate lyricism of Barber’s
Violin Concerto is superb. It has one of the most arresting
openings of any concerto - a great finale to this concert
of mid-20th century masterworks. Stravinsky and Brit-
ten wrote their works around the same time in the late
1930s, but otherwise they are chalk and cheese: Britten as
flamboyant and extrovert as Stravinsky is concentrated in
his jazzy baroque tribute to Bach. Swensen has a special
affection for Prokofiev’s Five Melodies. They started life
as songs, then became pieces for violin and piano - now
Swensen has orchestrated them and given a whole extra
dimension to these lovely miniatures.

One of the most exciting and virtuosic local ensembles, the Mahler
Players have been bringing their mini versions of Gustav Mahler’s
greatest works to the Highlands for almost two years and have built
up a loyal following. In this, their first visit to Eden Court, they perform
two of Mahler’s best-loved song cycles. Also on the menu are Britten’s
early but already distinctive Sinfonietta and Pärt’s hypnotising Fratres,
famous for its use in the 2007 film There Will Be Blood. In their
first foray into contemporary music they work with dynamic young
Scottish composer Peter Longworth, currently a member of the
London Philharmonic Orchestra’s Young Composers’ Programme.

Handel’s best-known work, Messiah has justifiably
maintained its central place in the choral singing
repertoire. Relating and reflecting on the story of
Christ’s birth and passion in a series of arias and
choruses, the music is both familiar and challenging
and Inverness Choral Society are delighted to
present Messiah for a Highland audience once more.
Inverness Choral Society, comprising 120 singers,
and the Inverness Choral Sinfonia, under the
leadership of Andrew Martin, together with a
quartet of young soloists, will again be conducted

evening of choral singing.
