"How Do I Type Up My Resume?"

For a quick resume, pre-formatted resume layouts can be accessed through any Wordprogram available at the Rose State College Learning Resource Center- Computer Center.

You may access these resume helpers by:

.:. Then, in the New Document Task Pane, under Templates, click on MyComputer

.:. Click the Other Documents Tab

.:. Double-click Resume Wizard and follow the steps in the Resume Wizard

.:. Remember that when you have more time) it is often better to not use the ResumeWizard macro as it will allow you more flexibility in the long run. Simply type thewhole resume yourself in Microsoft Word. You can then save it and bring it or e-mailit to the Job Placement Officeand we can assist you with wording and appearance.

.:. Do NOT present your resume in first person (I, we).

.:. Keep sentences short and punchy, and use action verbs to make your past come. alive. Alist of action verbs has been attached to this packet!

.:. Make sure you are consistent throughout your entire resume. Checkyourvocabulary and verb tense as well as any underlined, italicized, or bolded names. Ifone company name is italicized, make sure all company names are italicized.

•:. Avoid exaggerations and flowery terms.

•:. A one page resume is best, two pages for people with highly specialized or extensiveexperience. Drop offwork experience more than ten years old unless pertinent tothe job for which you are applying.

•:. Never lie on your resume. Always be ready to back up statements with specificexamples.

•:. Always use standard letter size, white, cream, 01' neutral colored paper as well as aneasy to read Font Style such as Arial or Times New Roman.

•:. Proofread, Proofread, Proofread! Have someone else with good grammar andspelling skills review your resume as well .
