The benefits of clean water
Rob Waugh "The benefits of clean water". African Business. 16 Sep, 2010
“Few factors have such a heavy influence on the relative poverty of different societies as public
health. People in a state of ill health cannot reasonably carry out any sort of trade or contribute to society.
East Africa as a region has a great many diseases that are extremely detrimental to the health of the
populace; HIV/Aids, Malaria and TB are all readily found in the region. However the source of ill-health that the
populace most commonly encounter is one which cannot be avoided: water.
Drinking dirty water is a common cause of non-communicable diseases such as giardiasis and gastro-enteritis.
These diseases lead to the dehydration cycle occurring, whereby dirty water is consumed causing diarrhoea
and vomiting which result in the individual becoming severely dehydrated and compelled to drink more of the
dirty water which made them ill in the first place.
Almost two million children under the age of five die each year worldwide as a result of diarrhoeal diseases. In
Uganda, at least 17% of children dying under the age of five do so as a result of diarrhoeal disease.
Not surprising in a country which, according to the UN, only has a rural clean water coverage rate of 52% and
basic sanitation coverage of only 39%. Clean water benefits individuals in removing the suffering of illness and
'multiplier benefits' in that it removes barriers that prevent them from gaining an education, growing
subsistence crops or seeking employment”.
Drinking healthy clean water can enhance the immune system as well as greatly reduce waterborne
diseases in the population through the application of the best technology available today
EcoAeon EWP ®
is here!
Water Purification -
EcoAeon EWP ®
EcoAeon EWP ®
EcoAeon EWP ® offers sustainable water solutions in both developed countries and for the treatment of
contaminated drinking water in developing countries.
EcoAeon EWP ® is a significant technological advancement for a large number of applications including
water softening, deionization, desalination of brackish water, treatment of borehole water, treatment of
potable water, water recycling and for the separation of contaminants from industrial wastewaters.
The EcoAeon EWP ® technology has been developed over a 10 year period and is now proven and
operating in installations in North America, Europe and Asia. It is an innovative and proven hybrid
capacitive deionization process that has been developed to provide an economic, low footprint, low
energy, chemical free process for the removal of total dissolved solids from water.
EcoAeon EWP ® technology removes more contaminants than any other single technology
Applications of EcoAeon EWP ®
include:
• Water Softening
• Borehole Water Treatment
• Water Recycling
• Deionization for Pure Water
• Desalination for Brackish Water
• Load Reduction on Membrane Systems
• Removal of Heavy Metals
• Ammonia Removal – as in landfill leachate
• Colour Removal - from textile wastewaters
• Nitrate Removal
• Fluoride Removal
• Arsenic Removal
• Pesticide Residue Removal
• Reduction of Pathogens
Advantages of EcoAeon EWP ®
• Capable of removing up to 95% of contaminants, which can be enhanced to achieve 99 %
removal dependent on the usage application .
• Providing water recovery rates between 80 - 95 % - in some cases the waste water can be
used in different applications .
• Low energy consumption process – can run from normal mains or be solar powered .
• No chemicals required .
• Uses no membranes .
• Is not a filtration process so does not require high energy consumption for pumping .
• Modular process – can be scaled upwards to handle any required flow from 200l/hour .
Where can EWP Prestige® be used?
• Fish Farming
• Hotel and Leisure Industries
• Agriculture / Farming
• Tea / Coffee production
• Swimming Pools
• Water Bottling
• Industrial / Pharmaceutical Use
• Protection from Waterborne Diseases
• Rural / Village Water Projects
