Yearly Switch-Off Fortnights to promote awareness of the uses and conservation of energy in everyday life.
‘Water and Hydration’ Project
Thames Water Company have donated a hundred and fifty water bottles to St Josephs’ to support our Eco School theme for this half term. The bottles have been received with gratitude and issued to learners and staff to promote a healthy living. We are making it a point to encourage and teach all learners and staff to drink water regularly and stay hydrated. It would be much appreciated if families can support the development of this awareness in the home environment too. Thanks
Saving energy gives our learners a sense
of achievement.
The use of visual aids and equipment
such as Energy monitors develops
understanding of this abstract concept
further.

Waste Management and Recycling at St Josephs – We have halved our waste production by 50% this year!
Every classroom and office in the school has a separate paper recycling bin, so, rather than simply sticking paper in the general waste bin, learners and staff
are reminded that we can play a part in reducing the need to cut down more trees, and help sustain the world’s forests. We try to print off as few emails
and other documents as possible, as this also wastes paper. We also have outdoor recycling bins.
We use our own compost around the grounds and for growing especially for growing crops in horticulture lessons.
‘Phil the Bag’ textile recycling
We make money by recycling bags of unwanted clothing. The idea is simple- anyone in the school with old clothes can bring them in, and they will be
gathered together until an arranged collection day. The clothes will then be sold on to developing countries, which not only helps people there, but also
saves damaging the environment by adding to the waste in landfill. The school is paid according to the weight of the bag, so there’s a good reason to recycle
as many of your old clothes as possible!
