    ECG Electrode Application Guide

Placement & Application Recommendations for Achieving Optimal Signal Quality during

    delivery of EECP Therapy

Step 1. Determine optimal positioning of electrodes

    a) In general start with White on Sternum, Black on ribs left side, V4, V5

position, and Green on Ribs right side. This gives a Lead II view.

    b) Apply the Vasomedical ECG electrodes before applying cuffs.

    c) Prep skin first before placing electrodes over bony sites.

    Step 2. Prepare skin

    a) Shave area if excessive hair is present.

    b) Cleanse skin with clean gauze pads by gently rubbing area with

Nuprep skin prepping gel. Note: Rub into skin lightly; over-

abrading can cause injury. If needed, use more strokes, not

    more pressure.

    c) Remove excess gel. Note: Daily skin assessment and variation ofelectrode sites may be necessary to prevent skin irritation.

    Step 3. Apply electrodes

    a) Remove electrodes from a freshly opened package and assess itscondition. Note: Vasomedical ECG electrodes are recommended for

the delivery of EECP therapy. Note: The electrode should appear

moist. If the electrode appears dry, apply a tiny drop of SignaGel ECG conductive gel to the sponge core

of the electrode and work the gel into the sponge. Do not allow gel to spread to adhesive edge.

    b) Place each electrode adhesive side down onto the prepared skin location. Next, starting with the outeredge, run your finger around the electrode several times toward the center. Then place gentle pressure at

the center of the electrode to enhance gel absorption by the skin.

Step 4. Connect lead wires to electrodes then TEST ECG quality

    a) Thread ECG wires out through the neck of patients shirt and clip to pillow.

    b) Tap on wire to electrode connection, like telegraph, while looking at patient ECG on screen.

    c) ECG should be stable while tapping on electrodes. If not, press firmly on the electrode.

    d) Tap again on electrode, if still noisy, reprep skin and use new electrode after replacing. Test again.
