The packaging guarantees stability for the equipment during all transport and handling procedures. Carry the packaged unit as

close as possible to the installation site.

When handling the unit on inclined surfaces (even where the incline is minimal), use equipment fitted with suitable

locking devices in order to prevent serious accidents.

1.1. CONVENTIONS USED

1. REQUIREMENTS

1.3. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

• Read this instruction manual before commissioning the equipment.

• The photovoltaic panels constantly supply a very high DC power level and the DC switch only cuts off connection with the inverter.

Never touch live parts powered by the photovoltaic panels, as doing so could cause serious injury due to electric shock.

• The device must only be accessed by authorised personnel.

• Unauthorised opening of the device or incorrect maintenance work may cause serious personal injury, fatal accidents or serious

material damage.

• All repair procedures must only be carried out by qualified personnel.

• All repair procedures must only be carried out using original spare parts.

• Original spare parts can be purchased from SOCOMEC customer service.

• Check the protective devices regularly.

• Only use fuses of the correct size.

• For plug-in photovoltaic connectors, the same brand of male and female connectors must be used.

• Making any changes to the ECB panel without obtaining prior consent from SOCOMEC is strictly prohibited.

Clean the ECB with a damp cloth and water or neutral soap.

1.4. QUALIFIED PERSONNEL

Personnel must be familiar with installation, assembly, commissioning and device operation procedures, and must be aware of

potential hazards.

Personnel must possess the required qualifications to carry out commissioning and maintenance procedures.

More specifically these qualifications include:

• Mechanical installation of the device: professional installer with basic electrical skills

• Electrical installation of the device: professional electricians

• Commissioning of the device: professional electricians.

2.2. ELECTRICAL DIAGRAM

There are two versions of ECB: ECB 3 kW to connect to only one 3 kW Inverter (fig 2.2-1) and ECB 6 kW to connect to two 3 kW

Inverters (fig 2.2-2). The ECB has one or two (depending on the model) DC switches to cut off the photovoltaic panels of the inverter,

which can also be handled while charged. Type 2 surge protection devices (SPD) are fitted downstream of the switch, in a classic

Y configuration.

The AC section has one or two (depending on the model) magnetothermal circuit breakers to which a 30 mA type A differential switch

(optional) can also be connected. The AC section is protected by type 2 SPD fitted with protection fuses.

The ECB connection panel is categorised as Class 2, therefore the earth wire is connected directly to the dischargers.

SPD intervention can be ‘monitored’ by the photovoltaic inverter, by connecting the relevant cable (supplied) to the inverter interface

circuit board (please refer to the inverter instruction manual).

When the ECB6 version is installed SPD intervention must only be ‘monitored’ only on one inverter.

3. INSTALLATION

3.1. MECHANICAL INSTALLATION

The equipment is designed for both indoor and outdoor operation.

WARNING!

Assemble it vertically or at a maximum angle of 45°. Be careful, as in this case a drop in performance (derating) may

occur due to the deterioration of heat dispersal.

The support points used to secure the panel must be sufficiently flat.

3.1-1: Remove the ECB from the packaging.

3.1-2: Remove the board fixing screws from the bracket.

3.1-3: Fasten the bracket supplied directly to the wall using two wall plugs, and to the inverter bracket using two nuts. To fix the ECB

on the wall in lateral position use the four holes.

Strip the Red and Black wires coming from panels and attach them to the relevant DC connectors. Connect the AC plug to the

power supply cable coming from mains (connectors and plug supplied).

3.1-4: Fix the ECB to the bracket using the four screws supplied (two on each side).

3.1-5: Remove the two anchoring screws from the mobile part of the bracket.

3.1-6: Rotate the ECB to connect the wires to the inverter.

4. MAINTENANCE

CAUTION: RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK

Before beginning any installation procedures, make sure you are wearing suitable safety equipment.

4.1. REGULAR INSPECTIONS

The following should be checked on a regular basis (at least once a year):

• Condition of wires.

• Condition of the panel.

• Condition of connections.

• Condition of fuses.

• Condition of switches (test differential switch intervention, if fitted).

• Condition of Surgys overvoltage SPD (end of service life indicators: green = ok; red = faulty)

4.2. SPD REPLACEMENT

If the dischargers need to be replaced, proceed as follows:

• Make sure that the ECB is completely disconnected (switches set to OFF and all AC/DC wires disconnected)

• Remove the clear plastic cover protecting the SPD

• Remove and replace the damaged SPD

• Replace any blown fuses (AC section only)

• Reposition the clear plastic cover

• Connect all AC/DC wires

• Set the DC switch to ON

• Set the AC magnetothermal circuit breaker to ON
