ECAE Research and Grant Proposal Application
Research Proposal Overview
Who is required to complete this application?
This research application must be completed in the following cases:
• If the research requires ECAE students, faculty or staff to be research participants.
• If the research requires the use of ECAE facilities, equipment or resources.
• If the research requires ECAE funding.
• If ECAE endorsement, approval and/or permission is required—for example, involvement in any
external research related activities as an ECAE faculty member, including applying for funding from
another institution(s), collecting data, gaining access to students and/or information at another
institution(s).
• If the research is conducted in ADEC schools. On approval by the Research Committee and Ethics
Committee, a letter of No Objection will be supplied by ECAE for the researcher(s) to submit with
the research proposal on-line to the ADEC Research Office.
Notes and instructions
✓ This application must be typed (Font: Times New Roman, Font size: 12, single spaced) and
completed in full, including the attached Ethics Committee form. Sections 1 – 8 of the proposal
should be no longer than 6 pages in total. ✓ Please attach a copy of the ethics form, research participant informed consent form, data gathering
tools, and any other relevant attachments.
✓ Graduate students who are conducting research as part of a graduate degree requirement at another
Univeristy must attach the original approval and proposal from that University and any other
supporting information.
✓ Please go to the Research Office website for application deadlines link.

Process
▪ The Research Committee will meet periodically to make final decisions about the submitted
applications. Only applications submitted by the published due date will be reviewed during the
following meeting.
▪ Each application shall remain confidential until approved, and only be shared among the Research
Committee members and administrators for review and decision purposes.
▪ Funded research can only proceed after final approval is received from the Vice Chancellor’s office.
▪ For funded research, it is the responsibility of the PI to document all expenses and activities, and to
submit all receipts and reports by the due date (no more than 2 months after the completion of the
research).

Details of the Research Proposal
Instructions: Please fill out all sections of this research proposal. Sections 1 – 8 below should
be no longer than 6 pages in total (references, supplementary materials, appendices, etc. should
appear in sections 9-13).

Summarize the major scholarly literature supporting the research problem, leading to the rationale
(minimum of at least 5 references; full references should be listed in section 10.)

Provide a detailed description of how the research will be conducted.

8. Proposed research output and dissemination
Describe the intended mode of dissemination for this research (i.e. Journal Article, Poster
Presentation, etc.).
9. Biographical details of the PI and CI
Provide a summary paragraph for each investigator.
10. References
Reference Sections should not exceed 2 pages.
11. Budget (Grant Applications Only)
Note: The standard budget period is the calendar year, 1 January – 31 December. Funds
should be expended during this period. Multi-year funding cannot be guaranteed. Please
use the template in Appendix A.
