http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/ec602-chapter-1-6displaydevices 10/66
Comparison CRT vs TFTSize and Shape
TFT monitors are thin and lightweight, whereas CRT monitors arebulky and heavy. This results in the TFT monitor being mucheasier on the eye as well as taking up a lot less space. A CRT
monitor needs extra room inside the casing, as it needs toproject a beam onto the screen to display pixels. The TFT monitordoes not need to do this, as the technology manipulates liquidcrystals to create an image. This is why all laptops have TFTdisplays, as they need to be thin and easy to carry.
Response Time The response time on a CRT monitor is much better than a TFT.
Response time is important because it measures how long it
takes for pixels displayed on the screen to change. A slowerresponse time will have an impact on gaming, as the frequentchanges on the display may be too much for some TFT monitorsto handle.

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/ec602-chapter-1-6displaydevices 11/66
Comparison CRT vs TFTPower Consumption
TFT monitors consume much less power. A 15-inch CRT monitor consumesapproximately 100 watts, but a TFT monitor of the same size only consumes 30watts. This means that the CRT monitor could end up costing more in the longrun through electricity bills. A CRT monitor needs more power, as it needs to
shoot a concentrated ray onto the glass screen to display images. The TFTmonitor needs to electrically alter a vast number of tiny l iquid crystals to displayan image, which requires less power.
Color Display CRT monitors display sharper and clearer colors due to their superior response
time. The lack of a decent color response may make TFT monitors undesirable tographic artists or designers, who will need the brighter color display of a CRT. TheCRT monitor will also display color better in videos and games.
Price CRT monitors are cheaper than TFTs when you are shopping for a standard sized
screen, but if you are looking for a monitor over 30 inches you may struggle tofind a CRT display, as they require a large amount of electricity. The bigger theCRT screen, the more power it needs. Once the monitor gets very big, thescreen needs an excessive amount of power and will have an impact on yourutility bill.

A wireless mouse uses radiofrequency (RF) broadcasts towork. The mouse contains atransmitter, which sends radiosignals about the mouse's actionsto the computer. The transmitter isvery lightweight and is low-powered enough to run onbatteries. The computer isconnected to a radio receiver, which receives the mouse's RFtransmissions, decodes them and
sends the data along to themouse driver software. Thereceiver can be an externaldevice plugged into a computeror an internal component

Although IR is cheaper and has less interference than RF, it
requires a direct optical connection between the peripheral andIR receiver. This technology is most often used when a wirelessperipheral can remain stationary and in line with the IR receiver..Since keyboards can remain fairly static while being used, thereare IR keyboards available for computer users that cannot use RFtechnology due to interference.

Bluetooth utilizes RF and, like other RF devices, uses frequency hoppingin the 2400 MHz band. Bluetooth is the only RF technology currently
used for wireless mouses and keyboards that is standardized acrossmanufacturers. Since Bluetooth was designed specifically forconnecting wireless devices such keyboards and mouses, thesedevices use comparatively little power and are more resilient againstinterference
