Why did EDS take longer to develop / release than other discovery services?

• EBSCO has 17 advisory boards made up entirely of librarians

• Years ago, we explained to our board members that “platform blending” was possible, but would require “unprecedented development”

• Board members urged us not to simply release a service dependent almost solely on full-text searching

• Members favored delayed release over quick release without integration of subject indexes

• EBSCO took the advice knowing that we would be last to market, suffer short-term losses, and not be able to offer a fully featured API until May 2012
