Facade reconstruction methodology

The development proposal at 61-65 Victoria Parade, Collingwood includes the restoration of the facade of the Baden Powell Hotel to reflect its original Victorian appearance.Drawings DWG 01-04 contain the reconstruction details and have been prepared using several sources, mainly: • historical photographic evidence-

the 1980s photograph provides a clear depiction of the original building and its prominent features. refer Reference image 1 below

• drawing on the existing built fabric of 65 Victoria Parade which is part of the original building and retains original details

The elevation to the west side (Cambridge Street) is now longer than the original and the reconstruction has been adjusted to reference the change in appearance over the years. Originally there were 4 first floor windows, the last two were a later addition. Considering this, the hood moulding has been left off these windows, and a line of quoining where it was shown in the 1890s image has been detailed, alluring to where the Victorian Hotel would have originally ended. A second line of quoining has been introduced at the corner of the building to balance the facade composition.

It is intended that the reconstructed facades will be finished with a natural lime-rich cement coat. All trims are to be finish in a single colour taken from the Dulux traditional range.

The adjoining terrace house at 65 Victoria Parade is to be restored to match in terms of render finish and trim colour. The fence and gate will be restored to match 67 Victoria Parade, albeit with a wider gate to permit equal access.
