Cause serious medical complications, including osteoporosis, irregular heartbeat and even deathMore common with women than men Considered to be a mental illnessesMost are unwilling to get helpSigns can be difficult to detectOccurs mostly with people in teenagers and early 20s A problem around the world Social pressure to be thin is the start of many eating disorder

Anorexia- an emotional illness in which people refuse to eat.Underweight Restricted eatingSevere weight lossAvoid food for psychological reasonsSymptoms include low blood pressure, slow heart rate, and growth of fine body hairAffects personality, they isolate themselves from family and friendsAppear depressed

Bulimia Nervosa- disorder in which individuals have frequent and uncontrollable periods of over eatingExperience overeating called binges (cannot stop until they are completely full) Vomits to get rid of the calories they intakeDo not gain weightLaxatives to help empty bowelsExercise excessivelyTemporary starve themselvesMore frequently women have bulimiaCaused by childhood experiences, family influences, and social pressures Can damage teeth and gums because of vomit

Binge Eating Disorder- a serious eating disorder in which people frequently consume large quantities of food

Many people overeat but for these people its on a regular basisUsually done in secretDeeply embarrassed about it Try to stop but can'tCauses significant weight gain After feels guilty, out of control and depressed

Night Eating Syndrome- persistent pattern of late-night binge eating

Abnormal overeating at nightEat majority of their food during the nightDo not always binge No control over eating patternsEqually common in men and womenOften obese or overweightCauses high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol Messes with their sleeping schedule
