1 Handling of the program

1.1 Program start

The short cuts „EASYSTEEL“, which were created during the installation on thedesktop or under Start->All Programs->LISEGA->EASYSTEEL can be used to startEASYSTEEL. The program will show a splash screen during the start-up phase toinform you about the initialization status. The following two pictures show the first and the last information on the splashscreen.

The last one:

After the program start the main form will be displayed (see figure xx.)

1.2 Main form

The EASYSTEEL layout is based on the layout of our program LICAD. This is directlyvisible for the main form. All program parts are available from this central programpoint.

The buttons on the form are also an overview of the program parts:- Design secondary steelwork (add, change & delete)- Print already designed and saved steelwork- Export the drawing of already designed and saved steelwork as DXF file- Export the BOM of already designed and saved steelwork to Excel- Setting program options

All these features are also available from the menu. The file menu contains the printand export functionality. The edit menu includes the steelwork design. The programoptions are available from the menu “Extras”.

The “What’s that” box in the top right corner of the main form shows a shortdescription of the program part that can be started, if the mouse is moved across thebuttons.

1.3 Design of second ary steelwork

The program part for the design of secondary steelwork can be reached from themain form (see chapter xx) via the button “Steelwork” or via the Menu “Edit->Steelwork”.

The selection of the steelwork is broken down into the following parts:- Selecting the LICAD support which needs secondary steelwork- Selecting the type of steelwork ( In EASYSTEEL called : system)- Selecting the kind of connection between the new secondary steelwork

system and the existing steel. ( In EASYSTEEL called: end connection)This is done for each end of the EASYSTEEL system that is connected to

the existing steel.- Calculating the possible system beams- Selecting one of the possible system beams- Show the result as drawing

To switch between the different parts the buttons in the lower right edge can be usedto move to the next or previous section.

It’s also possible to use the buttons at the top of the form. Only the buttons for theparts which are currently available are enabled. By entering more and moreinformation the availability of the parts changes and in the same manner the buttons

are enabled.

1.3.1 LICAD supports

The form shows the actual available LICAD supports.

This means that only the LICAD supports of the current LICAD project directory areavailable like in LICAD. The project directory can only be changed in LICAD. Achange of the project directory in LICAD, during EASYSTEEL is started, will have noeffect in EASYSTEEL until it’s restarted.

The list on the left side show the saved LICAD supports of the current LICAD projectdirectory. The LICAD support can be identified by LICAD drawing, hanger mark or

customer drawing number. The list show also, if an EASYSTEEL design exists for a specific LICAD support. Inthis case the background color of that entry is green or red and the EASYSTEELsystem type is displayed in the last column “ES system”.The green background indicates that the EASYSTEEL design is done on the actual

revision of the saved LICAD. If it’s red, than the EASYSTEEL design wasdone on a previous revision of the LICAD support. In this case theEASYSTEEL design should be recalculated to be sure that it fits tothe actual revision of the LICAD support!LICAD supports modifications will not directly be visible in EASYSTEEL. But, it’s

possible to refresh the LICAD support data information. Press the button “RefreshLICAD data” to do this. New LICAD supports are added to the list. Deleted LICADsupports are deleted from this list and the changes of supports are included.

1.3.1.1 Search for LICAD support

By entering a LICAD drawing, hanger mark or customer drawing number in the threefields below the list of LICAD supports, EASYSTEEL will automatically try to move tothe specified LICAD support. This functionality will be used often, if there are a lot of

LICAD supports in the current project directory.

1.3.1.2 Connection part details

On the right side the details of the LICAD support are shown.

Hint: The movement, which is shown, is not the movement of the pipe. It’s themovement of the connection part. That’s the reason why most of the time themovement is ZERO. Only for sliding connection parts like clamp bases the movementcan have a value other than ZERO.

The total support load is the maximum load from the LOAD input fields of LICAD plusthe dead weight of the whole support. If the LICAD support has two buildingconnections, the load can be splitted. This is necessary, if the LICAD support isattached to two beams (two EASYSTEEL designs). If the option “Split” isn’tactivated, EASYSTEEL assumes that the complete load is placed on one beam (onesystem).

The available connection options are shown at the bottom right side. The options canbe changed, if more than one option is available.

The following options are possible:

- Connection position at the steelwork ( top or bottom )- Orientation of the connection regarding to the beam length axis- Type of the connection ( Welded, Bolted, Sliding or Clamped)

The availability of these options depends on the connection part.

1.3.1.3 Additional load

It’s allowed to enter additional load, so that EASYSTEEL will calculate everythingwith the calculated LICAD load plus the entered additional load. EASYSTEELassumes that this load is applied to the system at the same point than the connectionpart is connected (see chapter 1.3.2 "Steelwork systems”).

1.3.1.4 Delete an EASYSTEEL design

An EASYSTEEL design can be deleted by pressing here the button “DeleteEASYSTEEL design”. A confirmation dialog is displayed before the design will reallybe deleted.

1.3.2 Steelwork systems

According to the steel connection part of the selected LICAD support the availablesteelwork configurations called systems are shown in the next screen (see figure xx).The allowed combination of connection part and system are described in the

technical documentation of EASYSTEEL.

The systems are shown on the left. The buttons for the available systems have adark grey background. The button of the actual selected system is marked with aturquoise background. To select a system click on the associated button. The pictureon the right side will change to the selected system. It includes the dimension inputfields, which are necessary to calculate the system. Each of these fields must befilled with a reasonable value. EASYSTEEL will inform the user, if the input isn’t valid.

The arrow that is placed in the middle on top or below the horizontal beam indicatesthe position of the LISEGA connection part.

The number of end connections is either one or two. The number is depending on theselected system. If a second end connection is available the input screen looks likethe input screen for the first end connection. The only changes are the showndirection of the beams and in the first line of the available end connections a weldedbrace connection is shown. This end connection is used for the systems with a brace.

The input is the same as explained before.

The screen will look like the following figure, if there is no second end connectionpossible, because the selected system has only one connection to the existing steel(e.g. simple cantilever beam).

1.3.4 Calculation of the possible system beams

All necessary inputs are done now. EASYSTEEL can calculate only with this fewinput information the available beams that fulfil all defined requirements. Thedefinition of the requirements is written in the technical manual for EASYSTEEL. The

requirements include geometry, weld/bolt, load and dimension checks.

The calculation will take a few seconds, because all checks done now. Thecalculation can be aborted by pressing the “Cancel” button. In this case no result willbe shown in the following screen “Suitable beams” (see figure xx).

The screen “Suitable beams” (see figure xx) will be automatically displayed after thecalculation.

1.3.5 Possible beams for the secondary steelwork

The result of the calculation will be shown in the screen “Suitable beams”. The figure(xx) below shows a result where beams are possible.

1.3.5.1 LISEGA beam naming schemaThe result will be shown in these classified names. Beams from different countriesare combined to one of these beam classes. There are 22 classes defined and 5countries included at the moment. Each class include only 1 national beam.EASYSTEEL will check all this beams during the calculation, if they fulfil therequirements.

The naming system is really simple. The table (xx) shows the naming system. TheLISEGA beam name is build with 2 characters and 2 digits.

Position Description

1 It’s an indicator, if the system beam is asingle beam or two parallel beams.Single beams use an “S”, two parallelbeams (called double beams) uses a“D”.

2 This is the shape of the profile:C,H,I,L or Q(Q means square hollow sections)

3 & 4 This is the nominal height of the profilein centimetres. (It could be that anational profile has a height that is notexactly this values!)

Using these definitions the result shown in the figure (xx) above is that 2 LISEGAbeam classes are possible. That means 10 real beams are possible. The realdesignation of the beam depends on the selected country.

1.3.5.2 Suitable beam selection

The program will sort the beam classes by name (see list in the top left corner) andwill select the first entry in the list, if a new design is done. If an existing design ischanged, EASYSTEEL will select the previous selected beam, if available yet.

Normally this list show only beam classes, where the beams from all availablecountries can be used. If this isn’t necessary, you can enable the option “Show alsobeams where not all countries are available”. Now the list will also include the beamsfor which not all countries are available, if such beams exist. The radio buttons for thenot available countries will be disabled, so that they can not be selected.

1.3.5.3 National profile

Which national profile should be used, can be selected with the radio buttons for thenational code. The country is preset to the country of the Windows system, if thiscountry is available. At the moment beams from Germany, France, Great Britain,Europe and USA are available.

1.3.5.4 End connection details

For each end connection a detail selection section is available to select e.g. the weldsize to use. If a welded intermediate plate is used, you can define the weld size for

both welds separately.

1.3.5.5 Tabs sheets with detail information

The tab sheets in the middle of the screen are explained in chapters 1.3.6.1 to1.3.6.12.

1.3.6 No beams possible for the entered steelwork information

If the calculation ends with the result, that no beams are possible, a few messagesare displayed to inform you about this circumstance (see figures xx & xy).

The result screen will be displayed nevertheless, because it includes not only thepossible beams, but also the reasons why beams can’t be used.EASYSTEEL will try to export all information & results to EXCEL, if installed. The

EXCEL file can be send to LISEGA, if an error occurs or LISEGA should check theresult. This EXCEL file can also be created by pressing the button “Create log resultsin Excel”.

The tab sheets in the middle of the screen height can be used to view the detailedcalculation results.

1.3.6.1 Detailed information of a calculation

The following tab sheets are available:- Input data / logging screen- LISEGA part – non fitting beams

- LISEGA part – suitable beams- System- non fitting beams- System – suitable beams

1.3.6.2 Input data / logging screen

This shows a text field where the input parameter for the calculation routines and allmessages from the calculation routine are written. This information is helpful for us tofind any problem.

1.3.6.3 LISEGA part – non fitting beams

This shows a table at the bottom with the information which system beams are sortedout during the checks of the LISEGA part. The reason why a beam was sorted out is

also written in the table.

1.3.6.4 LISEGA part – suitable beams

This shows a table at the bottom with the information which system beams arepossible to connect the LISEGA part to.

1.3.6.5 System- non fitting beams

This shows a table at the bottom with the information which system beams are sortedout during the checks of beam system. The reason (length, load, etc.) why a beamwas sorted out is also written in the table.

1.3.6.6 System – suitable beams

This shows a table at the bottom with the information which system beams arepossible with the actual load and system dimensions.

1.3.6.7 First end connection – check results

This step will only check the geometry and weld/bolt requirements. The load checkfor the end connections will be done afterthat. This shows a table at the bottom with the information which system beams arepossible or NOT! The beams with a ZERO in the column “KO_Nr” are possible. If thecolumn “KO_Nr” contains another value than 0, the beam can’t be used. The number

in the column “KO_Nr” is an indicator, why a beam is sorted out. The number corresponds with the equation numbers of chapter “E” of the technical manual. Thereason is defined there.

1.3.6.8 Second end connection – check results

See chapter 1.3.6.7 “First end connection – check results” above.

1.3.6.9 End connection 1 & 2 combined – non fitting beams

This is the list of beam that has not passed the load check of the end connections.

It shows a table at the bottom with the information which system beams are sortedout during the checks of beam system. The reason, which load check fails (why a

1.3.6.10  End connection 1 & 2 combined – suitable beams

Here are all beams with detailed information listed that can be used. Normally for one

beam here are more than one row. The reason is that for each e.g. each weld size arow exists.

1.3.6.11  Overall result – suitable beams

This is the summary of the list 1.3.6.10 “End connection 1 & 2 combined – suitablebeams”. Here is only one row per beam shown. That makes it much easier to get anoverview of the allowed beams and their details for the connection.

1.3.6.12  Details for currently selected beam

This is the detailed information taken from 1.3.6.11 “Overall result – suitable beams”

for the currently selected beam. It’s shown the ratio between the applied load and theallowable load, the ratio between the input dimensions and the maximum dimensionsand the weld range.

1.3.7.3 Export the current drawing preview as DXF file

It is possible to export the EASYSTEEL drawing completely as DXF file. The text andlines of special regions of the drawing will be placed on different layers. The layer names are fixed, but the layer definition can be changed. The reason for the fixedlayer is that LISEGA offers an AutoCAD lisp program that will combine a LICAD and

an EASYSTEEL DXF file to one drawing. This program requires the fixed layer names. The DXF settings dialog will be displayed before the “Save as” dialog is displayed.

The DXF filename must be the same as the corresponding LICAD DXF filename, if you want to use the AutoLISP program. The only difference is the add-on “_ES” inthe filename. AutoCAD and the AutoLISP program can be started directly fromEASYSTEEL. The two DXF files must be stored in the same directory. This is the reason why EASYSTEEL selects the same output directory for DXF filesas LICAD and the predefined filename.

1.3.7.4 Export the bill of material of the current drawing preview

This will directly export the bill of material to EXCEL. EXCEL has to be installed touse this function.
